This isn't another "I am god I quit my addiction" thread

I just quit WoW and said goodbye to my guild (i was raid leader 2 months ago,) some of the comments left are really upsetting, they actually mean a lot, can anyone explain how a tie this strong can occur just though a game? some of the comments are seriously making me consider just paying the £8.99 to speak to them
 
why dont you just get an irc room or MSN the ones who are your 'chums'.
heaven forbid your guild could get a forum?

Come on, its not very difficult!
 
Surely you have a Teamspeak/Vent that everyone uses or an Active forum, if not then its not worth 8.99 just to speak, you will find that you will keep on pouring money into something. Most of the players in WoW are from Finland/Sweeden anyway so its not like you can socialise like they do, often made me feel left out.
 
I don't get how someone can get addicted to WoW. Maybe its just because i've never had the balls to play it. Scared incase i like it. lol.
 
I was never addicted, just made a few good friends on there, i found it easy to quit, basically i have different priorities in my life than i did when i started playing, and i have always said, i will only play when i am bored, it's just that i was bored a hell of a lot of the time when i first started playing
 
i dont either, the game itself is rubbish imo :D Its the social/community aspect that people get addicted to, playing through it as a team, your own little army kind of thing.
Like if you're in the forces, the people around you become your family.
Kinda the same thing, Just use a forum or whatever, its only wow, its hardly much of a life afterall.
Less time spent on it the better, its a drain on people!

Im sure you'd much rather sit on these forums, or your guilds and chat than sit ingame, which you are using as a glorified IRC client?
 
If I find I'm talking to someone a lot in game, I'll add them to msn, so anyone I'd miss is still right there to talk to.

You spend hours and hours and hours with other people who have a like minded goal; to get better gear or progress through a game, killing twenty story high epic raid bosses in encounters that can last 30 minutes to completion, or 29 minutes to a wipe where you have to start all over again.

When you kill that next boss, or complete your set its a real buzz. And the people you play with become your friends, colleagues, life savers and it's weird. If you did the same sort of thing (albeit not killing fictional enemies) outside with people you wouldn't be called a loser.
 
This addiction amazes me, i never got into it 1 bit, kinda found it a bit crappy. But i can see where you come from, its just like playing cs, you meet up with loadsa ppl and meet great people. And in the end you just playing to catch up with them!
 
some of us are just different people, i had the odd 'chum' who i enjoyed playing cs or whatever with, as we could always have a laugh, even against each other. But iv always much prefered playing games with my real friends, we all got wow but got incredibly bored apart from a few lads who continued playing in their guilds. I dont really talk to anyone i dont actually know in real life that i did play games with anymore, although one or 2 i met through playing online games who turned out to know friends of friends or be from same town etc.
I think some people are wierd, i seem to be on a lot of dota player's friends list and everyones always saying hello to me and making small talk, or wanting to make clans, maybes a lot of people just have more empty lives than some of us :)

Or maybe they don't have any hangups about just chatting to random people that they encounter online.
