For some reason, when I go to a web-page, it takes a while to loads up, even though I'm on 20mb connection. T've ran several speed tests and my download speed is fine, but it also happens when im loading up a program...anyone got any good tips on how to imrpve the speed of my PC before it goes through the window lol

Done Defrag, Ran CCleaner, Ran Disk Cleanup, Ran Lavasoft Adaware Pro, Uninstalled programs, emptied my msconfig startup list

Right, I've set aside 2 hours tonight to sort this PC out.....I will be running the following:
MSConfig
Defrag
Lavasoft Adaware
CCleaner
Uninstalling software I no longer use...

Is there anything else people can recommend doing or recommend downloading to sort it out?

Double-check you've got the right drivers for the hard drive controllers as well as any other components.

My drives were running a lot slower than even ata-33 (more like ata-5), re-installing the drive controllers got them back up to ata-100.

If you have set aside 2hrs I would simply re-install your OS and all the latest drivers. Its sometimes much quicker and easier than trouble shooting.;)

If I Recover my PC and start fresh, would that enable Internet Explorer pages to open up loads quicker on a 20mb connection too?

It might, it might not. We don't actually know what the problem is with your setup. You may well find that it is all ok or you may recreate the symptoms all over again.

Did you check the current hard drive mode?

have you tried using a different browser?

Do this first. Get Firefox from www.getfirefox.com ;)

Did you check the current hard drive mode?

This is definitely something to check as well.

And failing those two, a few more questions. Are you on a wireless connection? If so, use tracert on a website like the BBC:

Start - Run - type "cmd", press enter - type "tracert www.bbc.co.uk"

That will time how long it takes a bit of info to go to the BBC website. I'd guess you should expect less than 100ms in total for this, but take other's advice as well. Paste the results of the tracert back in the thread if you want :) This should give an idea of if there's a delay in the communication, or a delay in your computer displaying the returned information.

If the tracert comes back pretty quick, then it'll be something to do with your computer and installing Firefox, or doing a recovery should fix it. If it comes back slow, then it's a problem with the setup/internet connection and Firefox or a recovery can't solve that.

Why would installing Firefox help his program load times?

He's done speed tests, all is fine there, I would avoid installing anything else until you know what's what.

I would seriously have a quick run of Regseeker from www.majorgeeks.com
