I consume about 1g of caffeine a day.

I want to quit, but I tried about a year ago, and it was really really rough. I literally felt like my legs were made of lead. Banged down a monster, and all was well with the world again lol.

I've switched from the energy drinks to green tea / earl grey (about 6 cups a day) for the past couple of weeks, its been good, and I feel better for it, but kinda wanna go the whole hog and see what being caffeine independent feels like. + I'm kinda scared its going to kill me eventually.

Was anyone else here consuming stupid amounts of caffeine and quit? How did it feel? Was it worth it, or no real benefit?

I can go from drinking 6+ cups a day to maybe drinking 1 cup with no issues?

Maybe you just don't drink enough water when you stop drinking coffee?

its not the caffeine that was the problem if you really do just have 1g a day (about 5 espressos) you are drinking monsters.

it was the sugar downer. I've done no coffee before but I wouldnt want to again, Happy riding the dragon thank you.
just drink water or something high in vit C (not concentrated juice) as a replacement. the Low's are easier but you still get the sugar ups.

I dropped from around 7 mugs of coffee a day to just one. Replacing ask but the first of the day worth fruit teas.

I felt awful for almost 3 weeks. Like I had the flu. Now its our of my system though I feel so much better.

I quit caffeine in most things, drinks, chocolate and so on wherever possible. Don't miss it at all, but I do drink around 2-3 litres of water every day.

That's quite a lot, spend a lot of time going to the loo ?

I used to have about 6 cans of relentless a day, so like 20+ cups of coffee lol.
None now, the only thing i drink is lightly sparkling water from Tesco, order 40ltr of it a week.

Still only manage about 4 hours sleep a night.

No. It's not that much and is about the recommended daily intake. I don't drink soda or anything else...the occasional tea, but mostly water.

It's a very large amount of water to be drinking per day, and that's not the the recommended amount. The recommended amount is around that, but that's including food intake.

You should be getting a lot of your water from food. Even things such as sugars have a hell of a lot of water.

Without knowing his daily activities....yeah ;)
You'll cry if i tell you how much i drink on a daily basis :)

Not according to my GP, Urologist and nutritionist. All of whom say I (male) should be drinking around 2 litres a day, more depending on my exercise regime. This doesn't include food....I pee around 4-5 times a day. Again, this is what I was told is healthy by my consultant.

If you exercise decently I've been told 3 to 4 by trainers. You **** a lot first but the body sorts it out in about 2 weeks.

2 to 3 sounds normal to me as well.

2-3 ltrs is on the low end for me. I work in manual labour and sweat excessively. I buy 40ltr of water a week from Tesco, that should put into perspective the amount i actually drink...

Never understood those who set arbitrary limits on others based on their own lifestyle.

I usually drink quite a lot of caffeine (espresso in the morning, 4-5 cups of coffee at work and another 2 cups of tea at home) but i'll stop it completely for about a week before a race to get maximum benefit from a pre-race coffee. It only takes 1-2 days to get over the withdrawal symptoms when I go cold-turkey.

I drink around 4 or 5 small cups (coffee bean to cup) from the vending machine at work, but i also drink plenty of water/juice through the day, although 2-3 ltr of water sounds like a lot to intake, when the max recommended intake is 2ltr per day for most male's.

There is no evidence you need that amount, I can pull up lots and lots of papers. But as stated If does vary depending on body size and amount of activity, but this is not massive amounts.
Although knowing the GD, I would normally recommend at least 6-7L.

If I can find it tomorrow, there is some other newer evidence that too much can be bad for the proteins in the brain. By too much water this mean over many years.

Sven, you are aware if you're thirsty you'll drink?
I mean, i'm not going to stop drinking just because i've reached (enter arbitrary limit here) for the day and no more drinking till 00:00 in the morning!

You'll drink when your body needs it and you'll stop when it's had enough, it's fairly simple.

Always have some water round you. Drink when you're thirsty - don't force it. If you go cold turkey you'll probably get headaches for about 2 weeks. If you have sugar with it your body will also be adjusting to that stopping too.
I drink 1-2 jugs of water a day. Always have some one my desk. If I don't I'm lazy and don't got get some and eventually get a headache.
Remember those recommendations about how much water you should consume includes the water in the food you eat.
