Hi I have tried the demo as a lot of you have and found it to be ok.

what I DON'T like is the fact that that it install to processes for punkbuster that run in the background ALL the time. Now I am all for anti cheat stuff but why does it have to run as a service from boot up? ? WHY not just when I am playing the game !

Ive had Punkbuster running before i started ETQW. Plus sometimes i have PunkbusterA & PunkbusterB on the go?!?!

I've uninstalled the ETQW demo & punkbusterA is still running :confused:

, I'll have to do a google to find out how to kill the beast :mad:

I'm pretty sure you will find it in the services list, just disable it.

it loads on boot for some reason? i quite like the game but its just BF2 reskinned isn't it

I think it gets installed with MoH Airboune aswell.

Just use PBSVC to remove the services, I need them running for BF2142, Crysis uses them as well I believe. They don't use a lot of memory or anything but it I understand it is annoying.

When I first saw them I got mad with PB and the services.

If you play any games with punkbuster then disbaling the pnkbstrA.exe will get you kicked, as this is the new form of PB :eek:

Only messed with it 1 hour tops, I dont like MP and its not that good looking anyhow, apart from when your in shallow water.

PnkBustrA.exe and PnkBustrB.exe are running on my machine too and I think they came with BF2

As has already been said by C64, just set the PunkBuster services to 'Manual' start instead of 'Automatic', that way you can still play the game online but the services wont be running when you start your PC.

No basis for most of this post other than a fair bit of PB experience as a Server Admin...

PB is very good at detecting changed game files, but one of the biggest vunerabilities of the previous incarnation of PB was against programs running outside of the game that would hook and manipulate the game code.

I would imagine that by running it from start up, and knowing what games you have installed, it can be continually checking for any nefarious services you may initiallise before the game itself.

I would guess the the dual redundancy of PBA&B is to make it more difficult for hacks to mask themselves from the scanning agent.

Of course, this is only a deterrant, sadly the hackers will always have the advantage since PB has to stop EVERY imaginable way of cheating, where as a hack only has to exploit one gap in the defenses...
