What? Why mask them when you cut them out complete? (We are talking about nitro cars, yeah?)
You don't cut them completely out though, side windows don't need cutting at all, front window only has a hole for re-fueling, rear only has a hole because the shell is too low for the heatsink :p. Secondly not all shells are for nitro. Thirdly, painted windows = the gay!

Not all cars are the same, the ones I had needed cutting the left window off, and tinted (black) windows for the win ;)

You firstly need to make sure that it is paint designed for polycarbonate. Normal car paint is not really any good. When I get home, i'll get the name and contact address for my irridescent (pearlescent is NOT what is shown in the above photo) paint, and let you know.

Generally, you "should" spray the shell with prep solution for the irridescent paint, however I never have, and it works spot on (so long as the shell is clean). You will need 3-4 coats (sprayed on VERY thinly, so it doesn't clot up and run), and then backed in black (at least I seem to remember it being black, could be silver then black thinking about it).

You will also need an airgun and compressor, cans suck.

Quite simply really. I'm guessing that paint job was a purple pearl, backed with black. Pearls are quite translucent by themselves and required covering in either silver (for a light bright, possibly pink finish) or black for a dark stunning finish.

Paint as follows - (Remember always paint on the inside of shell!)

Mount body on car, mark body post positions and drill out.

Throughly wash shell in soapy water, use a light scouring pad to rough up the paint areas (i.e NOT windows)

Dry well and stick on window stickers, if you dont have any, use masking tape

Spray 1 light coat of pearl into body. Use a hairdryer to dry it quickly.

Spray 1 more light coat and dry

Spray 1 heavyish coat, dry for about a minute

Once your happy with the paint coverage (check against a light to see where the paint is heavy or light covered, re-spray areas to match), paint a light coat of black on top. Dry for 1 min.

Spray 1 heavy coat of black so that NO pearl is visible inside. Dry for 1 min

Most important - Put in airing cupboard for 24 hours before you do anything else. This will let the paint dry properly.

Then you can remove the protective film, cut it to shape and fit the decals.

Hope that helps

btw, for desent paint, use either Custom Colours or Pactra. Both available at www.modelsport.co.uk

Ah so its a one can colour, thought it may of been 2 cans or something, sounds easy enough as i've sprayed shells before, prob go for pink/gold tho. Thank for that both of you.

Halfords sell that paint for normal cars also, might nip in to see how much :)

The pearl is a single can yes, but you need the black too. Heres the one i've used, looks stunning backed in black :
