R08ST ME

This forum has a tendancy to tar everything with the same brush though and I honestly get the nvidia hate because they're abusing their own situation. Which is good for their shareholders only.

I also understand gamers buying it because even if they aren't making full use of the capabilities now, they may just be future proofing their experiences like with next gen VR that I'm sure these cards will really come into their own. And if the cards carry on this trajectory whose to say that the 4080 or other 40 series will be discounted any considerable amount over the next 2+ years? And if design studios are buying up these cards then how tf is racing sim Simon gonna be affecting whether nvidia drop prices or not? Even if you settle for a lesser, older card, you're not getting better value for money in many situations! Or if you are, it is negligible.

So yeah, card is expensive and I do get the hate but it is getting silly now imo. The 4080 is a solid purchase for many people esp around the 1100-1200 mark.
No such thing as future proofing in tech especially for unquantified variables and developments.
What you buy now will be superseded in the near future, and obsolete soon after, for your whatever the target use case. All your doing is paying more for largely the same experience over X timeframe.

Unless you mean proofing against future financial circumstances that might prohibit you buying over the next few years. Even then you've still not gained much for the extra outlay.

Not according to the owners thread or the poll that was run. Its hardly setting the thread on fire. Plus its more round the £1250-£1550 mark. We shall see what happens but I`m hoping the 7900 pulls the 4080's pants down and kicks it over the moon.

Compared to the 3080, it's like 50% faster for 70% more money... I'm not sure how that makes a solid purchase?
Its pretty much the worse 80 series card that Nvidia have ever released on price to performance compared to the previous gen, Nvidia didn't even have the decency to to give it the full 75% performance uplift over the 3080 like the 4090 received over the 3090 despite the near doubling of its price.

Depends what you are using it for. Productivity the 4080 is pretty much twice the performance for less than twice the price.

I guess it comes down to whether you are stressing the card or not. If a card can half the time of your workflow then it would surely be worth it if you can afford it. I'd imagine most people buying a 4080 are people who aren't just fragging 12 year olds.

Yep - I feel bad for everyone that was waiting for the 4080 as an upgrade from a 10 or 20-series card but if these cards sell at this price it only gets worse from here on in. The 3080 (at MSRP) was terrific value, the 4080 at MSRP is terrible value.
Its better than a year or two ago since there are plenty of cheap used 3000 series floating about or new RNDA2 at reasonable prices and soon we'll have RDNA3 so anyone stuck on an older card really doesn't need to bend over for Nvidia's overpriced 3000/4000 series right now.

It's a good job the 4080 isn't selling then, FE drops is a testament to that regardless of what any retailer says. The proof is right there for all to see.

If it was a sensible choice and solid purchase getting one like you said, they'd be flying off the shelves. Fair play if you think it's worth it.

Not wise decision but not my money :) I would not spend that much on *70 card.

For some people yes it is. If you are using the card for reasons other than basic gaming, perhaps VR set up and/or for building, then buying it makes sense, but as I've said before, the options are limited. You're sticking paying high prices regardless.

It makes me laugh that people recommend a secondhand card (still gonna be paying 700+ for anything decent) where you don't even have transferable warranty and don't know the history? That sounds way more reckless than spending 1200 quid for a brand new, full warranty card that is a lot more powerful than the last gen.

I do understand the hate but if you're building a machine from new it is quite a dilemma and for me buying a 4080 is an option I'm weighing up and makes sense for me. I am put off with Palit tho I'm ngl, due to the teardown on how poor quality the components are.

I'd risk used 30 series / 6000 series in the £500 range over 4080 any day

Also even if you are silly enough to consider 4080 why not wait for 7900xtx

Unless stated otherwise, speaking in general is standard, right? And generally speaking, for most people it isn't a sensible choice getting a 4080. Your initial statement claiming it was didn't allude to the minority. There's a place that sells steaks for over £500. Some people buy it. Is it sensible in GENERAL though?

People are buying 3090s for 620-700 on the members market and 3080s been going for sub 500. Sellers are willing to help with warranty. I'm sure they are fine with being laughed at, just like how they laugh at people buying 4080s. Buying at high prices because you think it won't lower, that's exactly what I'm talking about in terms of being part of the problem.

Like I said, its totally cool if that's what you think, being the 4080 is a solid purchase, but stop saying you "understand the hate" only to disagree with anyone who thinks it isn't.

Lol I can disagree with people but still see where they are coming from, it is called being able to see things from others point of view.

I can't view the members section so can't comment, only see what's been selling on ebay.

Making people out to be part of a problem for buying a product that suits their needs at the time is pretty gross tbh.
