Hi

With a rolling start what kind of power would a R35 skyline need to out accelerate a 2005 R1?

Any ideas?

I would guess 800bhp or more and be super light, even then the car might not pull the bike back until you are over 150mph

I assume this is a stock R1 right? Not a crazy 180mph one right?

Straight line with a few miles it'd take a lot to beat an R1 up to around 125mph. Think more about scrapping the weight otherwise you'll be spending A LOT of money modding the Skyline and risking a very nice engine.

All R1's will do 180mph (indicated) won't they? My bike will do 186mph indicated I believe.

A rolling start... so torque is what matters and the R35 as a fair amount of that from the twin turbo's. It would still need a stupidly large amount of it to beat the R1 mind i would have thought.

From a standing start the R1 would have the GTR in it's dust until around 125mph and then car would then start coming back at it.

Maybe indicated, real world i very much doubt it, especially on a stock 7 year old R1. Would expect 165-170mph at the end of the revs after crawling the last 10mph.

Aftermarket air filter, decent exhaust and remap then sure, especially after some gear work maybe, i have no doubt you're on for 180mph+. Question is, do you have the balls to go that fast on 2 wheels ;) I know i bottle at around 130-140mph.

my 1998 zx6 would do an indicated 170mph,idk how accurate it was but certainly felt like it,nothing compares to bikes for outright acceleration/power to weight and speed

the skyline wouldnt beat an r1 no matter how old it was

gtr quicker off the line, r1 catching it to 100- after that I dunno..

Real life situation would entirely rely on skill of the pilot

To put this into perspective:
The R1 has a power to weight of roughly 980hp per tonne..... The R35 GT-R weighs 1700kg+. You'll need roughly 1670hp in the GTR to beat it's power to weight.

Of course there are other things to take into consideration, like traction, drag, the driver/rider etc but you would have to do quite a lot to the GTR to beat an R1 in a straight line. Mainly weightloss.

You sir are completely incorrect. Especially since we're on about rolling start.

There's a youtube vid I saw a while ago of a Dodge Viper out accelerating a 1ltr sports bike from a rolling start. It was probably around 1000bhp I seem to recall.

Maybe if it had done over 100k miles but your average 7 year old sportsbike will have done around 10-15k miles and aslong as you have had clearances checked recently it will still be a sweet engine.
I know this year at the TT my 7 year old gsxr 1000 did over 160 GPS and I had only just really clicked into 5th and she was still pulling like a train, it was scary how fast these things can go and how quick they will get there.
The only bike I have found a bit sluggish up top was my SV650 and that felt like it took an extra 2 miles just to get the last 5mph out :p

Most modern era 'sportsbikes' from I would say 2004+ have really strong engines and will pull like a train to their top end if you know when to change up in what respective gear.

That is why I said indicated? ;)

And yes, I saw 178mph on my clocks in Germany this year.

most R1's dont have stella miles on them so will still running strong the drop off isnt that much, my cbr600 would do an indicated 165 when it was new and was still doing that at 37k .

i never had a problem doing 150+ on my cbr used to do that most nights on the way to work

And iirc he gets his ass handed to him by a 'busa with nitrous...
:)

Go ahead, pull open the R1 throttle to WOT in any of the first 3 gears and see how it works... A car with launch control vs a big bhp/ton 2 wheeler.. hmm.

The R1 has aftermarket cans & a K&N filter. The R35 is a claimed 696 bhp.

Planning on rolling starts only as the R35 can seriously launch from standstill.

Done it, what's the problem? So long as you've ridden such a bike before you know how to handle it. First gear is tricky but we're on about a rolling start here because of launch control. Even then i think the R1 will still have it.
