R290X What Software?

I have just tried to have several games on BF4 and the longest it has last was about 5 mins before black screening.

Performance wise I am quite happy, it is averaging at around 100 FPS with stock CPU in DX11. So a decent jump over the 680 it replaces.

I will try the mantle drivers, a) to hope that some form of mirical happens b) to see the extra performance gains.

Edit: it just Black screened with 14.4 drivers.

I think for some reason 290 cards have a problem with some Gigabyte motherboards. Have you tried the very latest/beta motherboard bios?

It does sound worrying that your box was opened though. I'd be DSR'ing if it was me unless it was a good clocker and or issue free.

I got mantle working, for the 3 minuets of game play I got it was good. I was getting screen tearing on my 120Hz monitor

I have opened up a support ticket in CS so it will be going back.

At least you got to try a bit of Mantle. It is but a thing of beauty.

Have you tried flicking the bios on the gpu to uber mode?

I've just run tomb raider at 1080p ocuk bench settings and got 65.6fps. Temps maxxed out at 81c and the fan noise wasn't intrusive in all honesty, pretty pleased with it so far.

If it has to go back under DSR (OcUK can't replicate the fault) then I not sure where that leaves me. Do I take a punt on one of the cheap 290s, as I doubt I will get a 290X for that price any time soon. I can't afford the extra for a 780, although I would take one in a heartbeat if they were ~£300 so i'm not really sure what to do.

This will have no trouble reaching 290X speeds and beyond and it will do it in silence compared to a reference 290X. Something to consider if you send it back

I'm not too clued up on the black screen problem tbh, is that related to the memory type? Elpida could be the issue there but I'm guessing in all honesty. My last r9 290 was elpida and gave me flickering issues but not really a black screen, it would just bsod eventually.

Your safest bet would probably be to see when ocuk put a good offer on a gtx 780, they need to since amd released the never settle forever bundle. No idea when a price drop or offer will arrive though.

Your best off talking to ocuk, perhaps 5UB and see if they can offer you a deal given that you have received an open box item.

I was waiting for one of those to pop up on TDO for 299 like it did the other week. When this card appeared for the extra £20 it was too good to ignore.

I don't think I will see a 780 at a price I can afford any time soon. If anything they have increased in price since they had that big price drop when the 290s came out last year.
