Hi all,

Really hope someone can help me...

I have ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme motherboard (1502 latest bios), along with Corsair Dominator 1600 6gb ram and core i7 920 C0 stepping.

I've managed to get the CPU to 3.6 and 1520 on ram at itb and prime stable. I'd love it if someone could help me get to 4ghz.

Current settings at 3.6

multi: 19
bclk: 190
dram frequency: 1523
uclk:3048
qpi link data rate: 6857 mt/s

vcore: 1.33125 load @ 1.356 (board overvolts when stressed)
cpu pll: 1.8159
vtt: 1.32500 load @ 1.343
vdimm: 1.65

Manual Dram timings: 8 8 8 8 24 1n

HT ON

Speedstep and C1E Disabled

The others like IOH etc are on auto.

I just cant seem to go higher than 3.6. My temps are fine (no higher than 67, 4870x2 in loop also) as I'm on water.

Hope somone can weave their magic and help me get it up, even 3.8 would be better.!

Will it eventually kill my cpu pushing it to 4ghz?

What is considered safe (24/7) volts for vcore and vtt?

Thanks,

RoEy

go for

multi: 20
bclk: 200
dram frequency: 1604
uclk:auto
qpi link data rate: auto

Turbo - off

cpu v's 1.4v C0's handle higher v's better than D0's so don't panic lol

Thanks for info mate.

Can you make it a little clearer though for me, i.e the last bit? both to 1.4 or you saying they can both take upto 1.4 ie, vcore and vtt?

Any idea what volt 4ghz might need?

only thing is my pc didnt like even multi. Why auto for uclk and qpi too?

super fast reply too!

RoEy

P.S. Yeah I've diasbled turbo. Is the overvolting the board does when being stress safe?

I've got pretty much an identical setup to you but with a D0 stepping. If the temps are fine just up the vcore, as the C0's need more voltage for higher clocks than the D0's.

Also set the cpu ratio (ie the multiplier) to 20/21 instead of auto.

sry I meant 1.4vcore

can't see why even multi's would be a problem, my Rampage gene is fine with em but 21 x 190 would give 4ghz

Is 1.4 vcore safe? for 24/7 use?

What is safe for vtt aka qpi volts?

Why auto for uclk and qpi too?

Thanks again,

RoEy

P.S. SORRY FORGOT TO SAY - when you say 1.4vcore, is that taking into account the over volting the motherboard does when stress? so set vcore 1.38 then overvolts to roughly 1.4 or 1.4 - overvolt to 1.42???

multi is on 19 at mo mate not auto.

Put it at 21, leave the volts and report back!

what, leave it as i have it at mo for 3.6 then change just multi to 21?

I don't think thats going to work but I'll give it a try.

Or you mean set vcore to 1.4 too?

RoEy

Yeah, leave everything else the same and just change the multi to 21.

Leave the vcore unless it wont boot, then up it one increment.

Ok, i changed multi to 21 but wouldnt boot. I'll try upping the vcore then to get it to boot.

RoEy

If not just try it at 20 first. Then work your way to 21. Having it at 21 lets you have a lower bclk (base clock) so it should be more stable.

Right, it wouldnt boot at 21 so I upped vcore to 1.4 and I got to the windows logo, vista, then it bsod, Im guessing 1.42vcore would get me into windows but how safe is it to put that much through vcore?

RoEy

Really want 4ghz! lol

yeah ok. dont wanna put that much vcore through it. Id love to get to 3.8 as a compromise :) but my cpu hates it when its even multi.

Could I try 21 x 181 to give me 3.8, that way i shouldnt need to mess with vtt but just vcore, only thing is it will lower ram speed....

arrrrggggggg

I give up! lol

RoEy

Yeah try that, put the RAM ratio to the next step, if your case has decent airflow - which I know it does ;) it will be fine slightly overclocked!

is 100mhz over a small overclock for ram?

Just so I know, is anything upto 1.4 for vcore and vtt safe for 24/7 use?

RoEy

right im at 3.8, only thing is windows doesnt see it as 3.8 but sees it as 3.63, why?

ram is at 1440 but the next jump was 1800, is it safe to push ram 200 over?

Vcore is 1.38
