R600 benched only 200 points more than GTX

^ Indeed

Unless it's going to be cheaper as the 8800GTX, AMD is in big trouble, AMD still working on the r600, wich barely is better than nvidia's g80, while nvidia is already making a g90.

Early drivers and no game performance listed, I don't think it can be considered conclusive. Still doesn't look good for people that waited or will only buy ATi.

Reports like that are highly dubious..... if that was on the Inq everyone would be making  faces.

You have to wait for some proper benchies with pics, final hardware and decent drivers before anything can be even remotely conclusive.

I am willing to bet the final card performs significantly faster than the 8800GTX but we shall see.

Agreed. I can't see this being any more likely than the benchmark that was released on that Japanese site a couple of months ago.

Then again, I won't be going for one of these. I'm just waiting to see if this change to 65nm makes as much difference as it should. ;)

meh i still cant afford the cheapo 8800 gts 320 but when i got enough money ill buy what ever is best bang per buck as always :)

the longer im skint the bigger the jump will be from my x800 gto when i finnally get enough cash :D

as it says, they could be 65nm, and the post that the R600 reielise will be the biggest celebration ever etc by ati/amd i think they will have them in 65nm the best bunch of the R600's and have the cheaper ones at 80nm

im sceptical about these results, for example i bought 7600GT a while back, installed it, installed drivers, scored 3000 (or near enough) in 3D mark '05, thought 'wtf is going on here?' installed some slightly newer drivers and got an extra 3800 to the score, drivers are essencial to cards running properly, these might just be duff drivers at the moment

lol, vr zone have been the biggest and most useless rumour mill when its come to the R600, first telling everyone they'd only get 13" cards only , picturing them and refusing to point out they are prototype cards(ok, that mighta been the other site, canne remember). but generally they utterly change their mind every 12 seconds.

for those of you with 8800gtx/gts, you'll know that at those kinda speeds 3dmark tends to be CPU limited, with sub 3Ghz core duo a gts/gtx score VERY closely but we all see the difference in games. even 3dmark at that res but high aa/af would both score lower and become less cpu limited. but as per always 3dmark is very system dependant, 98% of games are GPU dependant almost exclusively.

'06 is still very gpu limited. yes it does do better with dual core cpu's but the difference isnt night and day:)

its hardly fair comparing pre release cards to cards that have been out 6 months with new drivers is it.

well. we're only comparing 3dmark here, but how much have the 8800's scores really improved over the last 6 months?
Basic numbers:

8800GTX stock
3dmark06 - 13717
Q6600 @ 3.6GHz

3dmark06 - 11314
X6800 @ 3.7GHz

3dmark05 - 19114
X6800 @ 3.88GHz. Talk about a huge score
http://www.bjorn3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10866

not much, concidering i score 10.7k in '06 with a stock 8800gtx and a 3.2ghz e6600.

They make me laugh they really do. I'm not totally surprised. A big hahaha to those who waited months for 5 FPS!

Also, when they say "AMD is keeping a close watch making sure nothing is leaked outside... The frontal shot contains sensitive information so we can't show it here."...

I mean do AMD *REALLY* think Nvidia don't know what they are upto? Do you really think it is all that secret? They must be mad!

I agree. I was waiting for R600 until my R580 died on me, so I got a G80. Pretty glad I didn't wait all this time now.

Unfortunately VR-Zone are becoming one of the biggest rumour mills, period.

Some of the articles they've published in the last year or more put The Inquirer to shame. :(
