R600 info

Am I the only guy on here that's worried about power consumption? If hardware keep going at this rate I'm going to have to invest in a generator to keep my bills down.

Well according to that article it uses LESS power than the G80, but who knows, im just gona wait and see.

Well if it can get away with using only 1 PCI-E power connector and it doesn't involve people hacking away at their cases to get the damn thing in then it should do well!

of course the r600 will be faster its the next card :) then the next nvidia will be faster still been like that for ever. back an forth. its gonna be a monster will be looking to get something like that come summer tiem along wth higher res monitor.

Is there a release date given by ati/amd yet? I hope that speculated jan30th is true ;) I might sell my x1900xtx and chill with a 6600gt for a lil while (have lots of uni work to do anyways), then when the R600 comes out... OMG!!!

Not actually true - as indicated above the 9700 was actually better than the next card released by the competitor and its happened several times before also , unless you mean each gen of card by the same manufacturer which would be a pointless post

I agree however more recently that each new card has at least been as fast - but with differing ways of presentation its a case of one set of cards is better at AI and the other is better at picture quality (for example)

As great as this R600 may be, I doubt it will beat the 9700 pro when it first came on the scene. Remember, ATi was a complete underdog back then and managed out of thin air to release the 9700 pro which crapped all over the Geforce 4 in every possible way and continued to crap on nvidia even when they released the Geforce 5 cards; the crapping only stopped when the Geforce 6 came out.

Well it does sound like a beats in all honesty, the two DDR memory versions will be interesting. Plus it may be shorter but they said the Cooler will be longer than the PCB so technically it may be a similar length to the 8800GTX who knows tho

I wasnt trying to suggest that the R600 would be as amazing as the 9700 turned out to be - all I was meaning is that sometimes like the AMD X2 compared to *** PIV , even after the next core/cpu/gpu from the opposing company comes out the older one is still widely thought of as better

I believe back then ATI gambled on not entering the Gforce 3 race as it were to get the 9700 upto speed, which they did with a bang - however the marketing clout they would now lose etc probably means it would be impossible to do now if you get what I mean

Just for the record - can anyone confirm, based on the specification given, whether this card will outperform the 8800 ?

I seem to remember when NVIDIA released the 7900, there was a lot of hype and expectations then when it was finally released, it was in many ways a flop! (at least in respect to the high hopes everyone had)

Hi there

The specifications are accurate. :)

ATI's aim is an XBOX 360 with enhancements on a graphics card.

Expect DirectX 10 performance to be out of this world, however DirectX 9 games won't be able to take advantage of the cards full power wheras DirectX 10 games will.

Needless to say this really could be like the 9700 Pro all over again, wait and see, but yes those specifications are close.

Gibbo, what stage are OCuk with this chipset? Anything official?

Hi there

Only apart from that we will be launch partner as we always are for ATI/NVIDIA graphics. OcUK is always and first and always gets the best allocation. It shall be no different on R600. :)

Can't really say anything due to NDA's.

Wow so Overclockers.co.uk are involved in making this card? I didn't read anything in the press about an ATI/Overclockers.co.uk merger?

I remember when overclockers.co.uk were just a normal eTailor selling PC components . . . now they are buying out the entire memory stock from huge comapnies like Crucial and now u say they are helping develop a next gen GPU!! :p

We've got nothing to do with making the card. We just sell it for ATI.
