R600 info

So DX9 games will not take full advantage of all this new hardware goodness, but are they (DX9 Games) going to run at least as well on the R600 as they do on the current DX9 cards or is it a case of taking a big performance hit in your current games just so you can play the next gen DX10 games at full speed/res???

Those specs were posted months ago, before the 8800 was launched.

They cut off the last part:
expected release price and date - 425.00/Nov 15th '06

heh, trust me to read those specs the day I receive my 8800gtx ;)

I'm not that fussed tbh though, if I had waited for this card a couple weeks later some super new nvidia specs would be leaked out and how the release is imminent. Companies do this on purpose and if you keep waiting you will wait for a long long time because those leaks always come just after the rival has released their card and suppliers start to get stocked up.

The DX10 cards, like the 8800GTX & 8800GTS for example, eat DX9 games for breakfast :D

WoW all them.

Yeah ill go along with the sarcasm also.... I just dont belive we will remotely see ETQW, Supreme commander, UT2007, Vanguard all coming in by Feb....

Proberly will only get 1 of those titles at most.

Its all very well having these 8800GTXs and even the R600s but there all gonna be idle untill decent games
arrive !

Oh boy Vanguard looks like another Oblivion :p

We'll probably have Halo 2 PC to come out with Vista, too, being as it's a Microsoft effort and - apparently - a Vista-only title.

Add to that the fact that the original Xbox needed an awesome game to launch with (the original Halo) and - considering a good portion (if not most) of the people I know who bought an Xbox did so just to play Halo multiplayer, I'd say Microsoft would be silly to miss out on another such opportunity.

Halo is nothing new to the PC. It's just a cash in, Halo is a poor at most average shooter compared to other FPS's available on the PC.

It's probably going to be a port anyway, so performance will be awfully poor, R600/G80 or no R600/G80! :)

Those where just 4 games off the top of my head that im looking forward to :D and are big releases due out around feb, bit more constructive than posting "none"

Totally agree on the 8800gtx point, tho u cant say the same about the R600 unless u can see into the future.

Supcom doesnt look far off as the beta is pretty awesome, few bugs to iron out and optimize.
ETQW has looked finished for months think there having probs balancing it tho, as for the other 2 not really been following to closely,
tho vanguard is a mmorg not a single player game....so nothing like oblivion imo

interesting, it mentions that that card will be using embedded dram. if thats the case then expect 16xAA with no performance hit whatsoever.

strangely i was chatting to Chris Taylor and some other Gas powered games staff in various pvt`s and they are all waiting untill January before they upgrade... at first i just presumed this was due to supcom launching in january but they are looking at a mid to late feb launch... so i wonder if they are all waiting for R600... who knows, maybe they already have one :p

Well can only hope they release some decent games in Jan/Feb but lately ive been a lot more pessimistic, perhaps thats due to 2006 being full of delays and well more delays.

except the fact R600 is a beefed up version of xenos, which powers the x-box 360, and halo 2 runs perfectly fine on that

Do I have to explain why console games run better on consoles? I thought it was pretty obvious.

i know its a console game but surely two systems with a GPU based on the exact same idea should be able to run the same game similarly well, i mean sure its like putting petrol into two petrol engines, but your making it sounds like were trying to run a petrol engine on diesel

actually once DX10 is fully established porting Xbox games to the pc will be a breeze due to the engine code for Xbox being developed by the Unreal team. ;) in theory they should be able to run just as well cross platform and be ported with minor effort.

He said dont make him explain.. not everyone will be on DirectX 10 and therefore the console still has a major advantage.. it doesnt have to worry about people turning down options or billy with his 9700 Pro.. the PC still does..
