R600 launch to be biggest in GPU history

R600: Exclusive co-operation between AMD and valve?

17.03.2007 10:43 clock - in a discussion with AMD Technical Program manager Lars wine and experienced PC Games hardware that AMD zusammmen closely such as Nvidia with certain play developers in the context of the coming R600-Launches work. Developers would have already for some time R600-Testkarten, in order to test Direct-X-10-Effekte, even if the map were not introduced yet to the public. Wine and stressed that AMD had a lead over Nvidia during the driver development, also with the Direct-X-10-Part.

Wine and did not want to call a concrete developer. Therefore the assumption lies close that AMD will announce an appropriate partnership with play developers to the Launch of the R600. According to statement of wine and such exclusive partnerships will occur in the future ever more importantly and more frequently than still in the past. In the past among other things the help Life developer valve had appeared as important strategic partner of AMD. Thus the SOURCE engine, which is among other things basis of help Life 2, was developed on Radeonkarten. And so far valve was comparatively calm with the topic Direct X 10. That puts the assumption close that valve waits on the Launch of the R600-Reihe, around which SOURCE engines to Direct X 10 to change over and perhaps a special DX-10-Demolevel or an ADD on builds.

Sounds like the usual hype just before ATIs big launch,of course if Valve were there to promote the beast while showing off DX10 tech then ATI will look like honey again :D

:D . Just thought I'd add this fresh new's aswell

(Need's translating if you don't speak German :p )

AMD is cooperating with Valve to launch R600 with a DX10 game. Maybe HL² Episode 2 ? -> http://www.pcgameshardware.de/?article_id=571781

This REALLY is looking interesting.

If this is true, it might just make me buy my first top end card at launch.

I only upgraded to this X1900XT for Episode 2 and then it was delayed again. But if they've added some Dx10 to it, it'll be worth the wait. :D

Im quite interested in R600, don't get me wrong my 8800GTS is awesome and so the 7800GTX before it but I feel somewhat neglected driver-wise (XP).

Episode 2 will be DX9.

Hope they do a counter strike game in Directx 10, that really would be awesome

Don't know about a new CS game, but im almost sure DX10 capabilities will be added to all of the Source games.

It actually reminds me when i got a free voucher for Half Life 2 with my 9800 Pro.

Just what I was thinking.
Game<->Hardware tie-ins like this are always a bit dodgy because there's no guarentee that the two releases will be naturally syncronised. So either you end up a with a game being unnecessarily delayed to launch alongside new hardware (Oblivion and XB360 being an example), or the hardware comes out before the game is ready (R350 and HL2).

^^^ Does that just mean it has support for things like pixel shader 4, but it's still running on a Dx9 engine then?
It sounds like there will simply be support for DirectX10 videocards and not that the games will support DirectX 10.

If the Source engine was getting a DX10 update, it would be all over the news.

So HL2 EP2 and portal/TF2 all due this fall ? Another delay I guess.....
This has been known for ages.

valve are already working on dx10 for the source engine, its been confirmed by the mods over at the steam forums :D

Valve have acknowledged that they have begun work on adding DX10 to Source but it is highly unlikely that it will be ready by the release of EP2.

One thing which is a big plus for me is that the r600 has sound card capablities
if using a hdmi plug :D

i hate using sound cards

Don't think it has the actual sound functionality on the card though does it? You would still need a sound card/on board to generate the signal for passing off to the GPU?
