R600 launch to be biggest in GPU history

I thought Episode 2 was delayed till August now anyway, thats about 2-3 months after R600 launch in May.

Im just gona wait and see when its out, they have to start hyping it up to keep peoples interest in it, as a lot of ppl lost interest months ago.

Entirely possible that Valve will release a tech-demo type level with ep2 technical features though, in the same way that they did with lost coast for ep1.

Valve and ATI have had a fairly close working relationship in the past.

Episode 2 will be DX9.
That's what I thought too.

I hope that games will come with both DX9 and DX10 options for the forseeable future... I'm not shelling out for Vista! Apart from DX10, there's no benefit for me :p If Wine and ReactOS are getting DX10 compatibility within the next year or so... then I'll just wait for that. But they haven't got DX9 sorted yet, so it'll probably be ages till their DX10 version is done :(

I was reading a Microsoft guys blog, and he said that DX10 could be on XP but they'd have to re-write the way it deals with drivers. Basically, they'd rather make us pay for Vista than support us with XP.

I wouldn't be so peaved if it was DX11 that needed Vista, that'd be more of a transition. But this just seems like forcing us onto a new OS...

EDIT:
Umm yeah, on topic; R600 launch. I'm looking forward to seeing how well they perform!

You need to get a grip on reality.
I think I'm on ags side ;) Judging on the last two cards I had (both problematic ATI cards). But I'm secretly hoping that they will improve things a lot with these new cards... I'm hoping they'll get rid of that horrible driver interface, but mostly that their cards will work properly for me. For once. But even if nobody reports problems, I don't think I'll get ATI, I'll likely get nVidias comeback to the R600. Or a heavily price reduced 8800 (crosses fingers) :p

17.03.2007 10:43 clock - in a discussion with AMD Technical Program manager Lars wine and experienced PC Games hardware that AMD zusammmen closely such as Nvidia with certain play developers in the context of the coming R600-Launches work. Developers would have already for some time R600-Testkarten, in order to test Direct-X-10-Effekte, even if the map were not introduced yet to the public. Wine and stressed that AMD had a lead over Nvidia during the driver development, also with the Direct-X-10-Part.

Translated ;) loosly !
It looks like AMD is working with Valve to produce some Source DX10 content, while optimising their R600 drivers to play it really well.
nVidia will have to wait and see it, before they can adapt their drivers, and this lets AMD claim DX10 superiority, pointing to how poorly the 8800's cope with "DX10 content".

I was going to upgrade one of my machines with a 8800 series card this week, but I'll wait and see what happens now...if the hype is true, I'm going to the R600!

On an aside, I think it's absolutely hillarious when people basically claim ATi are out the game etc due to the delay, yet the high end market is minute in comparison to other markets...

Nvidia have been hammering them in the mid-range as well though with the 320mb GTS which they released at a mid-range price, ATi's x1950pro, and x1950 XT were taken out in one fell swoop when that was released, so its not just been in the high-end where they have been getting slaughtered, still be great to see them get right back into it after this long delay. :)

On an overclocking enthusiast forum, in the graphics card section, the high-end is what most people are interested in. No-one has been making a statement about the overall financial viability of either company as far as I am aware...

I used to think that, but now people moan that it will cost an extra £100 a year in electricity to power the latest tech, or they moan that they have to change their case because the next card is too big or they moan about something else that has nothing to do with the speed of the card.

A real enthusiast dumps the case and has his setup resting on an empty motherboard box whilst raiding the savings piggy bank to pay for the extra electricity. He proudly posts videos showing Oblivion running Qarl's TP3 @ over 100fps @ 2560x1600 whilst the lights dim all around him :D

Class...

That might be a little closer to XS forums than here though I think.
