A friend of mine received a gigabyte R9 290 today and due to the forum registration being dysfunctional I'm having to post on his behalf.

As the title suggests the card does not output anything to the monitor, not even the bios splash or anything. The 6 + 8 pin connectors are plugged in and the fans on the card are running. Any ideas of how we could resolve this problem? Replies greatly appreciated.

Also since changing to the new card the mouse + keyboard don't light up.

Is he using a digital monitor? the R290 has no analogue output so if trying to use a DVI/VGA adapter you will get no display.

Full system specs please.

He's using a digital monitor but connecting it through HDMI, just as he did with his old card (GTX 660)

Specs:
PSU: Corsair CX600
CPU: i5 3570k
MB: Gigabyte Z77-D3H

Okay i'll let him know and get back to you, thanks!

Just a side note though, I got an R9 290 a while back and am using the exact same mobo and that worked on the same bios.

I've seen/read on previous threads this board have compatibility issues with GFX cards before (namely the 7850) which has nearly always been fixed with a BIOS update.

turns out it was the bios, thanks a lot! Do you know if this version of the bios changes the fans behaviour? Ever since I updated one of my fans stops working and kind of twitches now and again, and it seems that my friends case fans have stopped altogether since updating

Do you have Gigabyte EasyTune installed? The Smart fan option is in there to control the fans.

I know nothing about the fans and differing bioses.

Check in the pc health section of the bios that the cpu+system fans are setup as he had them before. thats if he changed the settings from default.
