I purchased the sapphire r9 290 to replace my hd7970
I uninstalled the 7970 removed card then put the 290 in and restarted.
PC boots but no signal from the hdmi from the card so black screen
removed the 290 and replaced it with the 7970 and the same happens.
I can get a signal from the mobo dvi when a gpu is not installed.

system
I5 3570K
Gigabyte Z77-UP4 TH
8gb blallistix ram
samsung evo 240 ssd
750w psu

I have tried setting pcie to primary etc

Slide that across and see if that helps

I've had two issues with previous machines not posting or no output when booting that sound similar.

One was a faulty GFX card, with it in the main PCI slot just a black screen and the machine would not post, at that time it was an older system and the second PCIE slot ran at only 4x, if I put the faulty card in the second PCIE slot, it would boot. Checking GPUZ the second 285 would only run at 2x!

I moved my other 285 to the primary and it would post.

The other issue was a PSU problem, the draw on the PSU was too much (PSU was around 4yrs old). I unplugged all other devices and large fans and the machine booted, but as soon as I plugged the other devices back in it would tip it over the edge.

Can't think of anything else useful if you have tried BIOS, changing onboard GFX etc sorry.

**EDIT** I did leave out the bit about cleaning the PCIE port with compressed air and also cleaning the GFX card with a pencil rubber, that actually for some odd reason made the faulty 285 bootable in slot 1, but it wasn't stable, so probably just a coincidence

Right i think have found the root cause of my issue!

It seems its the PSU, i have removerd the oc on the processor and disconnected the large array of fans and it works fine.
If i reconnect or apply a small OC i get the same black screen.
I have now ordered a new PSU corsair RM850 hopeing this will completely eliminate the issue
