R9 390 queery

i cannot comment on a AMD cpu but i have a nitro 390 with a old I7 950 @ 3ghz.

cpu\mobo\ram is old and I still have no issues with games like csgo, diablo 3, Killing floor 2 and most of the lego games

its cs go my son plays but wanted to play modded skyrim and it runs not too good on his 270x. hes looking at the 390 just now. then in the summer new cpu and board

That CPU would definetly hold the 390 back in some games, but if you're planning on a new CPU in the near future anyway, it'd still be a solid purchase and still a hefty upgrade from the 270X. Skyrim specifically is a game which is very dependent on single thread CPU performance, so you'll likely continue to have some performance issues there until you get a new CPU. The extra VRAM of the 390 would do wonders in terms of smoothing out performance with lots of graphical mods though.

i have had a quick google and posts suggest that Skrym is CPU heavy more than GPU load without any mods but when you start adding mods it can then start being GPU heavy.

sorry i cant help too much but ive not got the game to try or played it.

does he have any issues with Skrym without any mods? what screen ress does he play at?

i know with CSGO i have no issues with it on my 390
