Hello all

Need some advice

My son has a Ford Focus ST -LINE X 2020 which he got in February 2023 direct from ford on pcp :rolleyes:. 2 weeks ago a " low pressure Oil pump" warning came on about 1 mile from home and went into limp mode, we got it on the drive and I check the oil and 1/2 between markers . We decide to call RAC out too have a look and he came checked oil and turned engine on and we heard a loud tapping he turned it off and said do not move get it to dealership.
Car was taken 10 days ago and got the report today that oil pump timing belt snapped and blocked the pump filter is fords thinking , this were is gets tricky the car has an extended warranty provided by the RAC they want ford to remove the sump and take pictures but want us to pay for that £375+vat . Earliest they can is 15/01/2023 that the ford garage can do it and service manager has said it needs a new engine basically and we are looking at end of February .

Only way to diagnose is taking the sump off so how are the RAC hoping to find this out is what is confuses me.

Thanks in advance

rac and aa work this way we had it with customers porsche. car under warranty from main dealer, aa tries to start it when call out to non starting. even though told it needed to be trailered to the dealer because of warranty.
aa guy wouldnt give up and kept taking thing apart and checking resulting in a 45 pound sensor costing a engine.
it eventually arrived at our workshop and the aa wanted the engine taking out and basically stripping to find fault....at customers expense .
once it was proven to be there fault they paid total bill including removal labour.
the assesor they sent out looked like he had just left school :))).

total bill was just under 15k, but all ended well for customer.

Had a family member worked for JLR and there's a special way the battery needed to be connected up to not cause some serious damage. I remember him saying the number of cars that RAC/AA had messed up because rather than towing it into a garage they tried to deal with it themselves.

if asked, don't they give you an explanation though ? which will be refunded if X,Y,Z
ie. car maintained correctly and reasonable precautions to prevent any consequential damage;
what does warranty say about the belt as a potential wear&tear item
