Race Driver: Grid

Looking good, I really hope this has decent driving physics as it looks like it could be an amazing game.

The Race driver games are one of those games that i love the look of. Its only until you plug a steering wheel in, have a go and realise that it was made for people using keys.

If it was as hardcore as maybe GTR or LFS then i would buy it.

I really enjoy the handling of cars in Forza 2 and found it a pleasant experience, however when i played PGR3 i found corners to be extremely tight and the cars were very sluggish.

I really like the look of this game but the handling has to be perfect. the Atmosphere also makes the driving games a whole lot better and from what i can see it looks great.

I dont want to be driving in Narrow streets the whole game thought.

looks like itll be pretty arcadey, but feature a good fun and vibrant range of tracks and cars, vids seem to hint at muscle, street, circuit, drift (although some of the cars doing it worries me a lot)

This forum is a bit stupid. Why does everything have to be put in the 'simulation' or 'arcade' box, why ignore the hundreds of shades inbetween ?
You'd be right to say Gran Turismo is no R Factor - neither is it a Ridge Racer by any stretch of the imagination.
I see no reason why any point on the spectrum can't be worthy of praise, surely the quality of the game is what matters ?

Not to mention efforts like Mario cart, burnout, track mania, flatout, that sidestep the matter entirely in favour of various different emphasis.
Myself, I want to play a game that needs manual gears but I don't want to have to actually learn to be a pro race driver. Codemasters efforts fill that bill quite nicely. Also thinking about picking up sega rally. Going to have to dust off GT Legends one of these days. If they ever see fit to release a new Wipeout on PC, I'll def have that too.

As far as the codmasters PC games go, I've noticed a tendancy for them to be technically suspect in compatabilty. TOCA 3 wouldn't run on my then PC, crashing constantly. Dirt gave me teething troubles which turned out to be soundcard related but runs great since. Pity that all the non rally US events are entirely superfluous zero mavity tractor races. Fotunately, the core rallying is still great but if they wanted to appeal to the north american market that badly, I wish they'd have given europe a rally game & tacked all that other crap onto their version.

Now that Drive has jettisoned the stupid story elements, I'm intersted; promise there's no real customisation or setup required? Promise I don't have to play online, can I just race a car on some tracks?

I really hope it is more sim like, after playing games like LFS, playing arcade racing games just bore me. The old TOCA race driver games weren't arcade racers so lets hope this one isn't!

My thoughts exactly, I'm really looking forward to this. Well praying my four year old pc is up to the task of running it. 7600GT you can do it, you can do it.

My girlfriend's fave genre of games is driving ones, and this looks like loads of fun. Any game that gets us both playing together on the PC is good for me. She's a 'Flatout 2' freak and the number of players that leave servers just because 'Karen' is whipping their asses is highly amusing.

I'm sure that there are plenty who want their hardcore sims, but there are even more casual gamers out there who just want a good arcade racer.

My brother ran 'Dirt' at medium - ish on a 7600GT - not sure on the reolution, low widescreen I think. Anyway, if this is based on the same engine it should be possible with some compromises. Hopefully the game has been optimised for pc a bit.

If this control system is anything like CM DIRT then I'll be disappointed. Dirt had so much potential but the games control system was totally non linear when using a PC steering wheel. It took a lot of editing and fiddling just to get DIRT to handle acceptably and even then it still felt very wrong in places. Looked great though but so does richard burns rally with the HDR addon :)

personally i dont really like drivings sims, i find them to be boring and prefer games like Flatout. If i want to play a sim i'll drive to work :p

and yeah the handling on Dirt was terrible so if this follows suite it'll be one to avoid
