ok so, i bought my copy through steam, and a friend of mine bought his copy in gamestation on a disk, he installed, and can play online, i can also play online, but when he is running his copy, it says playing non steam game, and he cannot find me and i cant find him on it at all, anyone know how to solve the issue for us?
 
i never heard of that issue before, tried contacting steam to ask if their version was sub-contracted to them to do as they pleased?
 
i have tried steam but its not even in their list of game support pages, so had to go to codemasters support page and leave a message with them.
 
Has he patched too the latest version?

I've played my steam copy with retail copy owning friends. I seem to recall they could play with some players online, but had to update to play with me.
 
i messaged them....simple answer NO, thats pretty much the extent of the e-mail, you cannot play this game with friends, if, one bought it through steam and one bought the disc version, so stupid!

Sorry, that's bull.

I have 110% definately played the Steam version of the game with retail version friends.

iv tried numerous times, its aparantly just grid that screws u on this, cant find other person, yet we can both play online, no matter what iv tried it wont work, i did consider xfire to be able to do it, but it wont work either
 
iv just text him, waiting to find out, i thought it would auto patch the game when it starts up, iv never used the disc version myself.

The Steam version will automatically patch through the Steam client, the retail version requires the patch to be manually downloaded.

The Steam version is running the latest patch, 1.3.

if theres an appid in your grid folder copy it and tell your friend to put it in his folder.

then when hes on steam it should say hes playing grid
 
think it's inpossible to play with steam players if you bougyht off steam and antther thru n onr

think steam subcpnated
