I'm not sure on this, but you might need to use an older version of the drivers - they could have discontinued support for that card..?

Like I say, it's a guess

I had problems with my old ATI AGP card (a 9600xt). I had to lower the AGP Smart Gart feature from 8x (default setting) to 4x.

After that, no crashes. That was a known problem with the 9600xt cards, and might not be what you are experiencing, but worth a try :)

The setting is in ATI's control panel, or Display Properties.

still got probs the vpu keeps crashing

I had the same problem with an ATi 9700pro that I had.

I took the stock cooler of and replaced it with an artic cooler something or other and must have damaged something as the card card worked fine under windows with windows standard drivers. But as soon as you put an ATI driver near it , it crashed and had graphicial corruption in everything.

AFAIK, the windows default driver don't stress the card at all, but as soon as the proper ati drivers go near it that when it all goes pete tong.

Borked card I'd reckon,
Google bios flashes and see if you can get another bios for it ! a bit risky but if its knackered your not going to do any harm.
