Radeon 2400XT No Hardware Acceleration

Strange one this, I have the latest Drivers and it was working fine but the cheap fan on my powercolour card was noisy so I took it out and greased the fan bearing (if you can call it that) put it in and assumed it was working fine. Watched Tv and checked the GPU usage and temps and they were ok but when I played a HD Dvd my Pentium D 3ghz is now doing 70% of the work on both cores and the card is only doing 12-15%. The dvd plays fine but my CPU fan starts getting annoying as it speeds up to cope. Any ideas guys?
It's a HTPC based around an Aopen ePc945-m8, spec as Follows.
Vista Premium
Pentium D 3ghz
2gig Ram
500gig HD
Powercolour 2400XT low profile.

Have you got the rigth codecs installed? - PowerDVD as well?

yes, tbh it was working fine till I started mucking about with the crap fan. I'm just wondering if I've hit something on the board by accident whilst taking the fan and heatsink off
I have a 2400pro I will try and if it's ok I know I have damaged my 2400XT
