Radeon 4890 + Displayport - Not working

Hi there, just a generic query here about Displayport, converted to DVI.
I've got a cable that is displayport to dvi

cable came quick enough, plugged it into my 4890, nothing at all
CCC won't recognise there is anything on the end of it at all
windows 7 picks up something but can't recognise it
no signal at all on the monitor

anyone here use displayport to dvi successfully? :|
