In bed, asleep.
I upgraded from SLI 8800GTX's to a 5870 a few months back and had problems with it from the start. The first problem is that it takes ages to POST. Sometimes I can leave it 15-20 minutes and the PC will just sit there not doing anything. If I reset the PC and leave it eventually it'll POST and start loading. That brings me to my second issue. The initial boot is fine, right up to the point Windows starts to load. Once it shows the "Starting Windows" screen the display will start to tear terrible and will flash random artifacts etc until the Windows login screen when it stops. Up until the middle of last week that was the extent of the issue.

I completed Splinter Cell Conviction without issue and have got about half way through Just Cause 2 with no problems. Plus I ran the standard looped 3dmark test to make sure the system was stable and it was fine. Anyway last week I was browsing the web and the distortion/artifacts/tearing etc randomly started for about 30 seconds before the screen went red and white (thin vertical stripes) before locking. I rebooted and eventually got back into Windows and it was fine for a couple of days when I was in the middle of watching an episode of Zero Punctuation when it happened again. This time however I can't get back into Windows to check the temps of any of my components. My hunch is that the card has been faulty from the start and has slowly degraded. I'm going to stick one of my 8800GTX's back in tomorrow morning to see if the problems go away but I was wondering what peoples thoughts were. Faulty card that needs RMA'ing?

Here's my PC:

Intel QX6700
Asus Striker Extreme
OCZ Gold Edition 4GB PC2-6400C5
Radeon 5870
Enermax Galaxy 850w
Lian Li A71B
Windows 7 Pro

Sounds pretty dodgy. You will know if it is the card once you put your 8800 back in. I think it will definitely needs RMA'ing as sound like it is graphics card issues.
