Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

The streamer said in his chat at the end that the card had to be taken away, and he couldn't say why. And he'll be back tomorrow.

So yeah, that sucked.

Shortly before the stream ended, I heard other people in the background. Perhaps AMD really did give him a visit and take away the card, end his stream, etc? Nah. I wonder what time tomorrow then. I've got to get to work around this time so I might not be able to catch it. I'll read the aftermath on this thread I guess.

I'm not sure I buy the completely killed card angle. AMD will have a problem and AIB's won't be pleased if any random chinese guy can take home a 480. Get the all singing all dancing AMD OC tool and fully kill off the card so easily.

All i could get from the stream, if all to be true, he also seems to have overclocked the card.

Not sure what benchmark this is.

Results, don't know score of other cards but in the comment people compare it to a 970 score, see below.

Most likely not updated drivers.

The task at hand is to find this benchmark!

Yes, apparently people are saying he killed it with too much voltage, the moment he set the overclock it black screened and wouldn't boot right after. which was just before he pulled the card, stupid site doesnt let you rewind the stream so couldnt double check things.

This stream? I recorded it, the card was still running when he zoomed in on it, a minute later he turned it off and took it out.
that's all you could see.

Yup, and potentially 390X performance or slightly more. Less than a month ago, a 390X was £350+.

>£350 now? Since when?

And I guess the 390 was £300+?

So the 480 is good value after all, in some alternate universe where you buy your cards.

Should anyone wish to accept it...

Yeah The 390X has always been around £300, sometimes a little more, sometimes slightly less.

The 480 needs to be a bit faster than the 390X and a little cheaper, or a lot cheaper.
