Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Now 480 4GB vs GTX 970 4GB (3.5GB) would be a fairer comparison.

Makes me kind of sad in a way, after all the hype, if that is the case as in non DX12 stuff it won't be much faster than my 780 maybe not even faster. Though obviously is likely to crush it in next gen stuff.

OK, I need to know but how on earth is this even a contest? Once card is £212 and the other is £380, they are not even remotely in the same marketing segment.

lol

It is a case of one I can order and wife won't be too ****ed... the other is deaf and dumb breakfast for a few weeks.... :)

Would seem hardocp were correct about it running hot and relatively slow if that YouTube vid is anything to go by.

This pc per stream with Raja will be interesting seeing as he classed this as a "disruptive product".

Well Kyle has apparently just said he's hearing from AIB's that 1400-1600Mhz is very possible on custom cards though it's a bit of a silicon lottery in what it would do.

91C doesn't suggest running hot, or not, it depends entirely on the fan speed/noise being used. 1.5% clock lower was running at 83c and from every other leak it would suggest that level of heat at a low fan speed, none of which points to running hot, just quiet while on a tiny cooler.

A chip itself running hot means a giant heatsink and high fan speed are required to keep it stable let alone cool. A tiny heatsink and low fan speed and running at 83C doesn't suggest hot, it suggests it's running warm on a cheap heatsink, nothing else.

Remember if it is 390-390X performance that is the worst it will ever be. With better cooling and drivers over time it will get faster.

Roll on the real reviews, interesting times...

Your rational arguments are like watching someone standing against the ocean as the waves bare down on them. :/

This thread has suddenly been buried by posters coming out of nowhere to cry doom and disappointment. Did some special Nvidia Signal go out, or something? :/
What's annoying is anybody not acting like everything is fantastic is somehow being labeled some accusatory term of some sort. As if being disappointed is somehow an irrational stance right now going by what we've been shown.

I guarantee you drunkenmaster is disappointed so far, he just wouldn't ever admit it.

Anyways, still hope.
