Radeon VII

the performance is not great, it pains me to say it.

The cooler is not good enough. With better cooling, it should reach higher boost frequencies and hence performance.

On another note, why did AMD say that they couldn't touch the performance in games?
Sounds not professional and not serious to claim this when we see that some games don't use the card's capabilities.

It seems there is a good difference between the preview driver released to testers and the new driver released today, AMD list issues on the driver download page even with new driver. I have a feeling despite my first thoughts that it could be a good purchase once the drivers mature for it. although in principal its a shrunk Vega 64 it does have twice the memory to allocate and a whole new PCB and not so many compute units, so maybe driver optimisation will improve the performance over the next few months.

Its a shame the drivers were not fully on par with the hype, but after watching more reviews it seems a lot like it, just wish AMD had better drivers for release.

itchy wallet syndrome, it might work well in my super Mac :D

The second fastest consumer card in the world and you're disapointed with the performance? You're just greedy.
It’s the first fastest (AMD) card if that makes you happy!

For me the noise alone completely makes this card d.o.a. I know from experience with vega that you can tweak the card a bit to lower the tdp and the noise but at a starting point of 55db (anantech) it will take a very good cooler just to make it slightly less noisy.

I know this well sell to the AMD tryhards but the 2080 is faster, much much much much much quieter, has the useless RTX tech and the promise of DLSS and can be had for the same price.

Like vega1 when the price comes down enough the product will ‘improve’

Has anyone heard about the news that the UK is only going to get 100-200 Radeon VII's?

The forth fastest? RTX Titan, RTX 2080 Ti, RTX 2080 and only after these the VII.

I said consumer card! Nvidia's website targets the RTX titan for "GPU-accelerated data science workflows". There's no mention of gaming at all. The 2080Ti webpage however, references gaming 5 times.
erm not quite on a fair few benchmarks it was behind the 2080 and 1080Ti and others it was faster (basically AMD optimised games)

Yes of course it's behind the 2080Ti because AMD targeted it at the 2080. It trades blows with the 2080 and is more or less even.
Don't forget the 1080Ti, makes it the fifth?

The Radeon VII is actually equal in performance to the 1080Ti

My original statemant still stands (although with a small tweek) - The Radeon VII is the joint 2nd fastest consumer graphics card in the world :D and that's using launch drivers.

I did exactly what you did, was suprised that it asked for some kinda code from my bank, i was in a rush so much i didnt read that it had sent it to my phone for a few seconds, was just typing my dob , got mine at 13:58:57 , took me 1 minute to buy a 650 pound card, wats wong wit mee

Same here, done by 13:58, All I could do then was wait and hope.

It turns out there hasn't been as mad a rush as expected, People have held back from buying the £799.99 models but I imagine there's lots of Sapphire models on pre-order.

Looks like it doubles up as a leaf blower at this point of the video here..

:D

If it'd had a bigger heatsink the fans wouldn't of had to speed up so much which is a shame as it seem like they wanted to keep it at only 2 slots thick,
I'm not sure why they thought that was a requirement.

got the Sapphire on preorder. Was just ordering at about 13:59 on the mobile site and one of my work mates rang me for some information so just missed out. I can wait so not to bothered.

I got one of the early V56s when they came out, lucky on the price as well.

It was.. not particularly good compared to my previous Fury (non X) which was noisier and didn't light up.
Ok it was a fair bit quicker but not the upgrade i had hoped it would be. It was decent not "good" or "great"
But after finding out about the early work on bios swaps, then improved drivers and wattman actually started working.

God it shifted some, and didn't eat power, sound like a jet and didnt get all that warm.
But it took a little tweekery and drivers.
The former was fine, great infact as overclocking is now just half dozen mouse clicks in the bios and is more boring than watching paint dry.
The drivers bit as usual with a new AMD video card... well they take a month or two to reach proper greatness.. from then on its easy sailing... just dont go all in on day 1 for the V7, same goes for nvidia...

The 2080's faster than the VII, It can match the 1080ti with wins going either way so it's joint third but that still sounds good to me, I'm conveniently forgetting the Pascal Titans though. :D

Possibly but when drivers mature it will defo be 2nd. I dont even know why I'm getting excited, I've never bought a high end card in my life. The RX cards are the kind of budget I'm confortable with.
