hello all,
i am puzzled about geforce and radeon cards??? i find that a radeon gddr5 card with a very fast clock is the same price as a geforce ddr3 one with a not such a fast clock but which is the better?
plse help!!!! cheers:cool:
 
Difficult to compare, both use different ways to achieve a similar result. A 260gtx is about the same in capability as a radeon 4870. Both roughly equal.
 
Google, Bing, Yahoo etc?

As with just about every other piece of hardware on the market fella there is more to the story than just the advertised numbers.
 
Give us the cards you're looking at and we can help, however without it we're left guessing. Like the others have mentioned, the two can't be directly compared as the specifications work in different ways.
Some games also prefer one make over the other!

It's pretty much pointless to compare cards from different manufacturers using the tech specs alone, since the current Radeon and Geforce architectures are quite different.

A classic example is the number of stream processors on each card. Going by numbers alone, you'd think a Radeon HD4890 is vastly superior to a Geforce GTX275 since it has 800 stream processors compared to 240. Unfortunately this is not the case since the type of stream processors and the way they are counted on each card are different. Turns out these two cards actually perform roughly the same in games.

Same goes for the memory speeds. Yes the Radeons have faster GDDR5 memory vs GDDR3 memory on the Geforce cards, but Geforce cards have a bigger memory bus width, 512bit (or 448bit) vs 256bit on the Radeons. This means the memory bandwidth on both cards are roughly the same.

Ive had driver issues on all ATi cards Ive bought into.
I like my 5770, it has a tendancy to 'not show' some things though :confused:
 
Cant say either are perfect. You're talking to a guy with a laptop that has stuttering audio thanks to Nvidia gpu drivers, unless you work around it. Yeah great drivers from Nvidia these days ;)

Neither ATI or Nvidia are perfect.
 
god not this again, nethoir are perfect, ATI seem to be hitting the spot with performance increases I hear
