Radiator Cleaning

Webbo i thought it was only other brands of rads (XSPC, Feser etc) that you needed to use vinegar for?

Thought the Thermochills used a different type of flux and you only needed boiling water to clean it out?

I've just tried this, only left it to soak for about an hour mind as I was eager to see the results and I was planning on leaving it overnight anyway, I just got the the white vinegar colour with a hint of blue.

Think I've read that, that means its eating away at the copper or something along those lines?

They've only started using the other flux in the past 12 months IIRC ie - after this thread was posted.

I think it was a wee bit longer than 12 months. I got mine about 18 months ago and I'm sure Marci said I only needed to use warm water.

I can't remember specifics, but I think I used warm water for about 2 hours, emptied it, repeated, and repeated one more time, leaving it overnight.

I took my loop apart last month and I had no residue in the blocks - so it worked.

Jeez, 2 years since this thread was started, time flies :(.

I have amended the OP to reflect the changes. I still prefer the use of vinegar though as it gets more crap out than water but you do risk damaging the radiator if you are not carefull.;)

w3bbo - used this exact same method and it worked like a charm for my rads :) Have you ever thought of asking the mods to edit the advanced overclocking guide to include this information + your lapping guide?

Im sure Ive seen that picture before on a competitors forum W3bbo :D

I'm a member/moderator on a number of 'competitor' forums m8. Nothing wrong with sharing valuable info and guides with the whole overclocking community:). I mean it's not like OCUK are Israel and everyone else is an Arab nation......;)

Crap I never even knew about cleaning out my rad before use maybe should have researched a bit more, I've been using it for a few days, but emptied my system to shorten all the tubes and used fresh water. Do you think its worth taking it apart and cleaning? I did notice that the water was less cloudy in the pipes this time round.
