Radiator Question?

No. There is much argument about the relative methods of push vs pull vs double-pull vs double-push etc. Generally pull with a shroud to distance the fan from the rad is preferred.

Ok, Thanks.

The only reason I ask, is because Im going to have the radiator at the top of my case, and I don't want the fans to be the wrong way round. Or even the pipes to be the wrong way around.

If the radiator is at the top of the case, I would have the fans between the radiator and the case pulling case air up and out. remember the inside of the case will be much cooler after you install water-cooling as all the cpu heat goes to the radiator rather than simply circulating endlessly inside.

Is that the general consensus?

I currently have mine pushing air through the rad and into the case.

I would have thought that you be getting much cooler air going through your rad this way...(from the outside in)

as there would still be a lot of components inside a PC case to heat the air up inside (harddrives,PSU,GPU card, motherboard chipsets,RAM etc)plus the heat from the watercooling tubing and pumps...

I have a 120.2 rad at the front of my dragon and the fans pull the air through the rad from the outside.
I changed the fans around so that air from inside of the case was being pushed through the rad and my idle temps went up by 8 - 10 C.
So for my set-up, fans pulling air through the Rad from outside the case.

Mine pulls air into the case and through the radiator at the front but I've still got two other fans (one at the back and one on top) taking the air out of the case.

This way the air insde the case is constantly being changed and hopefully removing heat generated by the ram, motherboard and GPU.

You always want the coolest air possible flowing through your radiator (the most critical components will be in your water loop!) So it is much better to have air drawn into the case over the rad than blowing hot air from the case and through the rad - yes your case will heat up a bit, but your critical components will remain nice and cool - and a couple of decent fans will sort out your case temps.

I would agree except where the radiator is mounted horizontally at the top of the case. Pulling air down through the radiator resulting in hot air directly below the radiator which then tries to rise back upwards means the hot air going up is fighting the cold air coming down reducing airflow through the radiator.

Yip mine is horizontal. I'll try that when I'm fitting my new mobo next week.

Very interesting chaps, I wonder what is the best option for this arrangement:

At the moment the fans are pulling air through the case and the radiators.

I assume from the previous posts I should reverse this arrangement, I which case whould the fans push air into the case from the outside of the radiator or pull air through the radiator into the case, or doesn't it matter?

A bottom mounted rad seems to work well for me,the fans are set up to pull air through the rad from outside and below the case, the warm air then naturally rises and gets flushed out via the front and rear fans.

The fact that's it's at the top makes no difference - you should have better control over your airflow that 'hot air rises' ;) Buy some fans you cheapskate :D

Thanks for the comments chaps!

Could anyone recommend me a rad, that they think is good. I've come across one myself, but i thought I better ask here first .

PS, It must be a double rab, not a single or triple. Thanks.

Noticed a little build up on my rad the other day. Not bad enough to really effect temps but it is there and I hate dusty cases.

An hour or so ago I turned the fan's around so they are pushing cool air through the radiator and hence through the case.

The load temps have dropped by approximately 3 to 4 degrees.

Next, a filter.

Cheers chaps, nice 1.:)
