Radio 1 at 50, but can they find it?

Just goes to prove how dumb some millennials really are. It's a simple ******* radio for God's sake, not the controls of a nuclear reactor. Stick me in front of a steam engine and I'd happily figure it out and get it going.

But get an average 50-60+ yo to use a computer, tablet whatever efficiently and it's bloody frustrating.

I'm sure you could figure out a steam engine, with no manuals or diagrams.....if you've seen one before and had an idea on how it worked. But with no clue, or never even seen one? Very doubtful.

The present younger generation are without doubt the most incompetent and thick we've ever produced. Terrified of their own shadow, having massive insecurity problems, cannot take any criticism because they're from the "everybody is a winner" education system that doesn't recognise failure but actively praises it.

Imagine if we get into another war and we have conscription, how could we be expect people who need "safe spaces" and "no conflict areas" to do anything other than run away at the first sense of danger.
When you look around the world not all younger people are like ours, we do seem to have an exceptionally poor bunch.

That's a hell of a bandwagon you are riding :D

Writing off a whole generation, probably one you helped produce?

Just remember they are a product of 2 or so generations back... What does that say about those who set the rules?

Remember this post when you are binned off into an old peoples home and relying on the younger generation to wipe your backside!

I'm not sure we will need conscription, the younger generation will have voted in the Corbyn cult, who in turn will be waving the white flag after decommisioning the nukes.

But back on topic - the dial ignorant have none the less learned to use a vinyl record player, (OK maybe trend will reverse with MrGoves new grading system),
and if their hearing is better than the previous generation, may appreciate that audio quality from an FM station exceed's the typical 128Kb/s aac streaming site - quality not quantity.

I am fairly sure that I have never seen anyone under the age of 30 use a DAB radio anywhere other than in a car.

I expect, even in the car, younger people use their mobile devices to play music more than anything else.

Radio (as an entertainment delivery system) is dead by anything other than name to anyone under 30. On demand delivery of a tailored music type is the norm for young people.
Tell that to the millions of people listening to capital. That audience is predominantly 20s and 30s.

It isn't just about functionality, radio is about a curated experience and a "friend" on the other end to many listeners. It's also easy. Yes, I know you can have Spotify radios and all that provide the same experience, but I wouldn't assert that the majority of young drivers are using it. Mostly because they love the crap music being played on the radio

Anon, 1900

And subsequently by Anons grandson in 1950 and then anons Greta grandson in 1970...

But back on topic - the dial ignorant have none the less *static* (OK maybe trend will reverse with MrGoves new grading system),
and if their hearing is *”always look on the bright sid”* may appreciate that audio quality from an FM station exceed's the typical *tunnel static* - quality not quantity.

Sorry, what did you say? The static and cross talk with that other radio station was causing problems, then I went into a tunnel and lost you completely.

It's just history repeating itself. Only difference is now people feel they have more rights to get offended and make pointless conversation of their concerns.

Saw a clip on reddit other day of some kid <10 holding a Gameboy or something similar. The kid was pressing the screen trying to get it to work, despite buttons being right near its other hand lol.

Months ago, had some kid in local charity shop point at something & say "What's that?". Erm, it was a bog standard 1970's/80's radio, the type that when you turned the dial, the bar would go from left to right & back. Didn't think that would confuse anyone ;)

Or worse...around a year ago

Kid came up to me at the till & said "Do these work?" (was pointing at some cameras)
Me: "They should do, no batteries to test them though, but you can return it if it does not. Also, you will need to buy film, of course".
Kid: "Film, do you mean like DVDs?".
Me: "What, no, film for the camera.".
Kid: "What do you mean?".
Me, completely flummoxed & feeling ancient: "I...erm, film....you get it from the chemists, assuming they, er, still sell it.".

At that point I am still waiting for the ground to open up & take me...

How times have changed ;)

Ha, look how stupid young people are! :D

Give him a slap and send him on his way!
