I've often wondered why foot troops don't have mobile jammer units with them in Afghanistan, etc. A lot of the bombs are set of by mobile phones so blocking phones within a certain radius would surely be of some help?
It's what they used to have in Northern Ireland. Was mentioned in a documentary about the troubles that I watched last year some time. Patrol out doing its thing comes under fire - everyone hits the deck except the radio guy who has to remain standing so the radio jamming stuff doesn't loose its effectiveness due to him lying in the dirt in a field somewhere.
I should imagine things have moved on a bit since then. Tbh I can't see them not taking advantage of such technology out there.
