As I know there's a few of you on here that are into aircraft, I thought I'd share a few pics from my recent trip to RAF Cosford (near telford)

W00t 1000 posts!

I went there not long ago, a really interesting place.

The cold war section is really good, I enjoyed my day there.
Im sure I saw that TSR2 at Duxford a few years back getting restored

Those ones hanging from the ceiling, must just be hollow shell, or that's one insanely strong building.

i went down there the other day, i was bored so i thought i'd walk over to the airfield!

Its pretty cool

edit: i've just been told im going to be working the cosford air show...ohh

The Cold War Museum is on my places to visit list for this year.... Looks great.

The TSR2 at Duxford is reasonably freshly restored, but is only a shell. The one at Cosford is much closer to being complete. Still missing loads of stuff though.

Very definitely worth the visit, it's one of the few places that doesn't sugar coat the story - you get a real sense of the implications of it all kicking off and just how close we did come to it happening.

The layout in the Cold War Museum is far better than the rest of the place too (as can be seen in the pics), they've put a bit of thought into sqeezing everything in rather than just lining stuff up although they did have to put the Victor up on bricks to let you under the wing :)

Best of all it's free!

Did you do like I did and try to take a shot from directly underneath that Lightning? :)

This is as close to that as I got

Was limited by the lens on my K800i's camera sadly.

I'd definitely recommend a visit. Makes a nice change from Duxford which I live on the doorstep of. Duxford has a certain edge to it in that it is more of a 'living' museum - you can see restoration projects taking place in open hangars & obviously it has aircraft like the SR-71 Blackbird. BUT they certainly know how to charge :(

Last time I went to Cosford I was so inspired by the TSR2...I built one!!! (albeit a tad smaller)

I never forget my first visit there when I was a nipper - the sheer size of the thing is incredible, standing on its high undercarriage it towers above everything else!

Couldn't find the one from directly under the Lightning's exhausts, so here's a close up of the 'Firestreaks'. :)
