RAF - Eligibility interview

For the second interview at the AFCO you won't need to know any military specific info at all. It's only when you get to the final selection days at Cranwell (OASC) that that sort of stuff becomes necessary. One of my old bosses is a Sqn Ldr selector at OASC - if you've got any questions I can put them to him if you like?

You need to know about RAF bases, aircraft, operations and international bases, command structure, RAF history (brief), the UN and NATO, as well as the structure of your training.

I don't know what you mean by "military specific info", but you will need to know the above for the AFCO interview.

Well I knew naff all about the military on both my trips to the AFCO and it didn't stop me getting a job with the RAF. Maybe things have changed?

No, they rely on your ignorance to sucker you in. The ones in the know join the Royal Navy:p

Don't get me started! ;) I have the misfortune of living on a Navy base at the moment and they're all just plain "weird"! ;)

After the aptitude test I got a presentation in which we were made to take notes on key points that would turn up in our interview.

then when I had my interview he basically asked me all the questions Id already answered in my notes so I rattled them off easily enough

Would I be visiting Cranwell if I'm going for Photographer?

There appears to be conflicting opinions of what will be asked of me in my interview. Perhaps the wisest cause of action would be to prepare fully for both scenarios. :)

Trick, Hedge and Longbow: What trade did you apply for?

How did you do?

Hey mate, just got home from gym/test.

Set the treadmill to a speed that would complete the distance in 12minutes... then i sped it up for the last couple of minutes and hit about 11mins 30 secs.

Coulda went faster but I didnt want to risk burning myself out over nothing :)

Woop woop! :D

harharhar i got 11mins 19 secs when did mine two years ago :P

Pah!, I aint ran in over a year (which is not a good indication of my drive and effort im putting into this lol)

My job as a postie must be paying off though because I wasnt really that breathless after it. Quite enjoyed it though and its making me wanna run all the time now. :D

Congrats Chris :D

Sorry for being off topic, but I passed my AST today.

My formal interview next is Monday, with my medical on the Thursday if I pass.

Its dependant on your trade, and its not in percentage.

I required a minimum of 60 "points" to pass for avionics technician, I did ok (just) in my Maths section but excelled in Mechanical and Electrical comprehension.

Overall I got 76 points. (I don't know what the top score possible was, but the Sgt told me I got highest marks in the group in Mechanical and Electrical comprehension.)

Passed English fine, Spatial reasoning was great and I did above average in the work rate test. The 4 minutes to do them goes to fast! :p

I found the memory test stupidly hard, the letters/squares on the screen flew by to fast. :( I dunno what I got for that, the score is not on my form.
