Rafa deserves the chance to overachieve with Liverpool again

I would say Torres more falls into a top three bracket, but then again I wouldn't think back-ups have to completely emulate the first team player's skill. He just has to provide a functional transition that doesn't completely let the team slip during the periods of rest of injury.

It wasn't meant to be a total assessment of Torres' worth or skill since it is highly subjective, just a general idea that he's amongst the best players in the World for his position. And Jigga's point (such as I understood it) was that Liverpool didn't have a back up of equal calibre.

So I don't think a fairly decent back-up would necessarily have to be in the mould of a Torres, no. A player in the £5-10m bracket would do well for Liverfewl in this role.

I'm not so sure, Ryan Babel was over £10m, Robbie Keane was knocking on the door of £20m. Maybe it's harder to buy in that price bracket than we think although you're right, they don't have to be identical to the leading striker which is where I was leading in the first place.

We can never get a player as good as torres but we should have got a player as equal calibre or a bit less then torres i would think about a defoe or darrent bent for a back up

Defoe or Bent as backup? You're having a laugh if you think either would be happy sitting on the bench for the majority of the season. We simply won't get a quality striker as backup while we play 1 upfront.

if we play a 4-4-2 they would not sit on the bench

guys guys what do you mean you don't have a backup!?!?! You have Kuyt! lol :D

...and we have Bendtner :(

That Torygraph article is incredibly pessimistic. Having just read of it, part of me thinks it is maybe media sensationalism (the press exaggerating things? NEVER!). However if things really are that bleak it'll be an absolute travesty that two people have been allowed to come in and so comprehensively ****-over a club that seemed in decent financial health before David Moores' departure. I mean there should be some kind of legal culpability involved for Hicks/Gillett if they do end up dragging Liverpool under...
It's totally wrong, and I hate to see it, even as someone who enjoys a chuckle at Benitez's misfortune :p

... and waiting in the wings at Arsenal we have Usmanov and Kroenke. Fanbloodytastic.

I actually always feel a touch sorry for Kuyt, he works his socks off and got 11 goals this season, 15 goals last season. Primarily from the right wing. Its actually a not bad tally when compared to other premier league right wingers.

To be honest, I actually quite like him.

£5m doesn't get you much these days though in the English market, you are talking an Ade Akinbiyi, Carl Cort, Dave Kitson, Michael Chopra sort of striker. You know, the sort of player that could probably do the business for a promotion-chasing side in the Championship, but wouldn't really cut it somewhere like Liverpool where they are looking for someone to light up Channel 5 on a Thursday night.

I just want some clarification on the rules, I wasn't attacking the mods in any way (unless calling them Liverpool fans is :p) We were told that no club threads were allowed but now there is this one and the Arsenal one. Neither of them are talking about their original topic any more.

This might be slightly off topic but its to do with Liverpool. But has anyone read the piece in the times, I haven't read it but i was listening to Talk Sport yesterday and the guy who has written it was talking about it.

Couldn't believe how bad things are at Liverpool in regards to the financial side, he was saying that Liverpool essential had to convince the banks who provide their loans that they could get through the season without collapse and even had to convince the premier league the same thing. He went on to say that everything on the Liverpool balance sheet is Red and that going in to administration and taking a 9 point hit could be the best thing for the club.

I may be a bit behind the times, i hear about Liverpool's problems but never imagined it was that bad.

Thread has gone off topic too many times and while what shamikebab says was quite offensive the fact is that it has turned into more of a club thread

I did warn earlier in the thread that it would be closed if it continued, then again some folks obviously only see what they want to see

If anyone wants to start a new thread on any individual aspect of discussion involved here then that is fine
