Hi,

I just added a Vertex 90Gb SSD to my system which is great (altho filling up fast!).

I also have a 500Gb Samsung Spinpoint and wondered if it would be worthwhile adding another. I've never had a raid setup but from what I've seen it can double the access speed.

The OS and apps (CS4 & Steam) are on the SSD and I've got larger games on the Samsung.

Does anyone recommened this and if so, can someone point me in the direction of a walkthrough on how to go about it. Software raid, hardware raid?

Current system:
X58 UD4P
6Gb's Corsair RAM
HD6850
HX520
Vertex 2e 90Gb
Spinpoint 500Gb

Hardware raid is expensive, so software is by far the most likely choice. Probably easiest to use the version built into your motherboard, the manual will detail how to do so.

Keep the data backed up. If one disk of a raid 0 fails, the data is gone. If the raid falls over without warning, even though the drives look alright, the data is probably gone. It really sucks to then go to a forum asking how to get your data back and get replies to the effect of "simple, restore from backup". If you can't afford the additional hard drive space for the backup, and you value the data you'd place on the raid 0, don't do it.

Thanks, there won't be anything of value on the drive, just games I can re-download if necessary. I'll be getting another storage drive also for mp3s etc so anything of value will reside there.
