Hi all,

I've got an old WD 36GB raptor and a WD 500AAKS, im hoping to replace the raptor with an SSD in about a year, i was also thinking about getting a second AAKS and putting them in a RAID 0, can anyone tell me there experiances with this? is RAID 0 worth it? does it ACTUALLY double the read/write speeds? Thanks in advance :D

Unfortunately the big thread on this topic has fallen off the end of the forum otherwise I'd link you to it.

There are very divided opinions on whether RAID0 offers any tangible benefits and most of the opinions are based on people's personal experiences. Some find it beneficial, some don't.

I find raid great very snappy but you need to backup your system and its always good to have a storage drive as it only a matter of time when a drive fails whether its just a glitch or a serious problem

oh thats a shame...

welll i looked up some benchmark for raid 0 setups and i have to say i think ill go for it some time in the future, paying £65 for another drive making it 1TB and having faster performance seems like a better idea than splashing out for a 1TB drive. plus if one drive fails i still have one to fall back on.

EDIT: yeah i keep backups so im not worried about one drive failing :)

thanks for the link, a lot of mixed results there...

seems when i browse around i see the same thing everywhere, so i have decided. when asus bring out their boards based on the intel p45, im going to get one of those, a new case, and then order a second WD 500AAKS and put them in a RAID 0.

I want to see the performance difference so ill post benchmarks on here, anyone who would like to see results from any benchmark applications or results for anything else that has heavy read/write usage let me know and ill try to get results for you.
