Has anyone got raid 0 to work with this board yet?

Contacted Gigabyte about it and received this reply:

"Please double check the drives and cables and swap out to test also check the RAID array and rebuild if necessary. What make of HDD are you using?

You might want to check the temperature for the CPU, M/B chipset or the VGA card to see if it's too hot.
For the hardware, causes could be the memory, CPU or the M/B most of the time. You will need to remove the components one at a time to find out which one is causing it."

Windows installs fine it just wont boot, I get a blue screen.

My setup is the following

cpu: E6300 core 2 duo
ram: 2gb gskill pc6400 dual ram
vga: radeon x1900 xt
hard drive: 2 samsung spinpoint's 4002H

Any ideas lads, this is driving me insane?

you should be using the intel orange ports
purple is the jbmicron
there is known problems with jbmicron as it shares with the ide channel

How do I set up a raid array when I use the Intel sockets?

When I use the intel sockets the ctrl-g option to configure them doesint appear

cheers

Just found out my mobo uses ICH8 not ICH8 r so no raid support for me, ffs.

So I take it there's no work around to get raid working with the JBmicron?

By 'windows installs fine' do you mean the blue screen section completes, but you'll get an error when booting from the hd to continue the rest of installation?

No, I mean that I can install windows fully but when I reboot the final time to access the new install, i get the blue screen.

What do you mean get Windows on first, the mess with it?

I was under the impression you cant make a raid 0 array after Windows was installed.

Hi,

I have managed to get raid 0 to work with this board, I just followed the manual's instructions and it seemed to work. I think I am using the gigabyte raid controller though. I cant find any settings for the intel one.

Out of interest what version of windows are you trying to install? XP, XP+SP1, XP+SP2 or Media Centre? Pro/Home.

Cheers

That would be down to the ICH8 being used rather than the ICH8R.
The "R" standing for RAID - so it would appear the Intel SATA controllers do not have any RAID ability on the DS3.

You do need to make the array before installing windows, I think easy is confused!

I'm having issues with my IDE drive atm, it doesnt like it and thinks its a scsi drive. I'm using the slots on the right of the board, cant remember their colour, doh.

I build quite a few PC's with a range of difference MB's for people who ask for RAID.

When I hit trouble with the initial install, I find one of the quickest and easiest ways around it is to install Windows onto an IDE drive to get it up and running, then set up the two SATA drives into a raid array and make sure they work before installing (or ghosting) windows onto your working RAID array.

I think this is what easyrider meant ?

Sorry yes,

I never read the thread correctly it was late,
I assumed you had windows already installed and the raid 0 array was two other disks,

My apologies for any confusion :)

got it working

Finally got it working.

This should work with XP and server 2003.

Setup your raid array via the JBmicron, go to the bios and select the fail-safe defaults option on the main screen in the bios.

Disable any USB support, Disable parallel port, disable onboard audio and disable any other stuff you think you wont need for the install.
I kept the serial ports enabled to use a standard mouse and keyboard for the install.

It should now work fine, after it's installed go and enable what you need in the bios.

Boot up Windows..........

I'm thinking it has to be an IRQ conflict during install, who knows????

Thanks lads for your input, much appreciated. ;)

Not convinced you would be having an IRQ issue.
IRQ's (well the need to assign and/or worry about them) first started going away with the release of Win98 and by the time Win2k was released and ACPI was working 100% correctly they really have become a thing of the past.

Sure there are still only 15 physical IRQ's but the need to assign them and reserve them etc is a thing of the past and I'm certain not something that would have suddenly been reintroduced after all these years.
