I currently have 2 raptors in raid 0 configuration. My Asus A7V880 motherboard has just failed. I need to know if I'll be-able to simply buy a different motherboard, plug in the two SATA drives, and retrieve the raid array with all the data intact?? This is one thing i've never attempted before.

My other option is to source a replacement A7V880, plug the cabling in the same configuration, and hopefully it won't notice the change.

MikeW:

Using a different motherboard will not work, however using another Asus A7V880 motherboard (exactly the same rev) I think would work, with everything being set up exactly the same.

I'm sure if I am wrong some kind person will put me straight. :)

thanks, that was my line of thinking too.

Thankfully I made a complete drive backup on Sunday, so won't lose anything if I have to rebuild the array.

You will be able to do it if the motherboard has the same chipset on it to control the RAID array.

I personally have went from a nForce2 to nForce4 (both nVidia) before without a problem.

I've also went between different versions of Silicon Image chipsets to - Sil3112 to sil3114 IIRC.
