Have you tried the longer bench, the short bench imo is innacurate for such big array's (2+ TB  )

yes

the only way it will get max transfer rate is if
i enable volume write back cache, but it uses a lot of cpu power

i will try 4 drives shortly just to see if raid 0 only likes pairs
of drive's

Some Intel ICHs limit the max performance of RAIDs . A couple of 150GB raptors gave me a max read speed of 180mb/s on a NF4 NB. The same HDD gives a flat 140mb/s performance over the first 100GB on a ICH7R (975x chipset)

I have 2 150gb Raptors in RAID 0 and here's the results:

With write back cache enabled the CPU usage is 4%

With write back cache disabled the CPU usage is 1%

With write back cache enabled the avg read is 151.4 MB/s

With write back cache disabled the avg read is 134.8 MB/s

Thats with HDTACH the long test.

So CPU usage isn't a big hit with 2 drives.
