I am thinking of buying a new HDD so I can go in Raid 0, I was wandering what I need to actually get Raid 0, do I need 2 of exactly the same HDD's? because I already got a 500gb one and I wanna buy the SpinPoint F3 as my 2nd one, also are their any additional hardware that I need?

Technically you can use any two drives for RAID 0, they don't even have to be the same size.
The problem is with different drives the performance, and firmware on the drives don't always work together as well as they should, and if the drives are different sizes you can only use the space of the smallest drive.

I always say buy two drives that are the same, at the cost of drives these days that isn't usually a problem... BUT if you do decide to add a second drive which is different to the first it will work.

Oh and nearly every mainstream motherboard made in the past 6 years has an onboard RAID controller so that shouldn't be an issue for you.

Ok thanks a lot mate, think I will buy a new one then as the other HDD is only 320GB,

I really recommend you get two of the same drives and make sure you do regular backups of any important data on the array. Other than that RAID 0 is pretty sweet, i've been running 2 samsung spinpoints in RAID 0 for 3 years.

Yeah I've always thought to make sure the drives are the same model, otherwise you can get performance issues, in theory it will work with different models/makes etc, but you can avoid hassle if you get the same one.
