Raid 1 on 2 HDD

Hi all,

First attempt at Raid 1 and i'm a bit baffled.

Working with an OC built basic machine for a colleague (using for her small business). ASUS H81M-K Intel H81 Mobo and 2x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200prm 6gb/s HDDs, Win7 Pro 64x

Going to set it up with Raid 1 for redundancy and figured I'd go with the Win7 software raid, but everything I can find is telling me I need to have the OS on a separate HDD and then use the other two for mirroring the data.

What I really want is to just use the two drives, mirror everything including the OS, so that if one fails we can just replace the failed drive without having to reinstall the OS and programs. User isn't very tech savvy so I don't want her to have to remember to install programs onto other drives and such, because it just won't happen.

Is there any way of doing this in Win7 Pro? If not, can you recommend another way of doing this without having to hardware raid preferably?

Really appreciate any constructive assistance you can offer. TIA

Go into the BIOS, SATA settings, change AHCI to RAID, when the PC is booting up it'll say press "button" to launch Intel Raid utility. Create the RAID array here.

By hardware raid .. did you mean an additional RAID Card or motherboard?

Hi, appreciate the quick response.

By hardware, I meant having to buy a raid card...

This Mobo uses UEFI Bios Utility v2.10.1208 and for the life of us we can't find anything to do with SATA setting. Found some info suggesting it would be in 'advanced' but definitely nothing in there...

Looked about to see if the Mobo supports raid, found one site saying it does and one saying it doesn't, Asus website didn't shed much light.
