Raid 1 Performance

Just wondering if you were using 2 drives in a raid 1 array as the system drive should that lower the performance of the drives as I tried it and it was really slow .

Yeah everything was running really slowly though seemed like it couldn't read very fast, maybe too much going on between the two drives.
