RAID 10, or 01?

Can somebody explain to me which is better in terms of redundancy AND speed?
1+0, or 0+1?

Also... spec me a controller supporting a 4-drive array in either configuration
(If I need a controller that is... I'll most likely be using the X58-UD3R).

Nobody?
I've never set-up RAID, and I dont really know what the failure rate of drives is these days.
It'll be for a DAW so dont really want to lose loads of audio.

Speed should be similar for both.

Both will survive a single disk failure however the one that's striped RAID1 arrays (can never remember if that's 01 or 10) has a better chance of surviving a second failure than mirrored RAID0s.

Go with RAID10.

I could be wrong but I think RAID01 is 2 striped sets mirrored so if 1 drive fails you get a massive performance hit.

RAID10 is is 2 mirrored sets in a stripe so if 1 disk fails you dont get a performance hit and its rather easy to fix (just shove another drive in.)

Again this might not be 100% correct but i tried my best.....after RAID5 everything gets a bit fuzzy.......

RAID 10 is quicker as data is striped accross all th disks..

Yo uneed a minimum of 4 to setup though as oppsed to 2 for raid 1..

With both you lose half your physical capacity.

I will probably be getting one of the Gigabyte X58 boards.
Havent decided on which one yet.... but will be a UD3R, UD4, or UD5.

Well you'll need to get an 'R' model as that's the raid.

The UD5 claims to use the ICH10R so that has RAID support.

The ICH10R Southbridge supports six SATA 3GB devices (colored blue) while Gigabyte SATA2 chip manages the other four SATA 3GB headers (colored white). The ICH10R controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10. Gigabyte’s SATA2 chip can be used to run up to four SATA devices in RAID 0, 1, and JBOD.
