RAID 10 + Write Cache

I'm setting up a Small Business Server using RAID 10, I was just wondering if I should turn on the the Cache in the RAID, this Server does not have a battery backing up the cache, but it will have a UPS connected.

Upto now I have always left the cache turned off on RAID unless backed up by a battery.

So is this a good or bad idea ?

Agreed that without BBU i'ts best left as pass thru just to be safe. Can't you get a BBU module for the raid card?

Thanks for the confirmation.

I will leave it turned off, there is no BBU for this RAID card its only an entry level one.

With a UPS there's no problem, use it. Just be sure that it's set to shutdown nicely if the power to the UPS goes out.

and if the UPS fails rather than the mains power ?

or someone knocks the power lead out ?

or the PSU on the server fails ?

etc etc
