RAID advice please

Never dabbled in RAID before, so would like some advice please.

Can find plenty of advice on how to set up RAID0 from scratch, but not much clear info on how to do it as a 2nd drive once Windows 7 is installed.

Is it simply a case of going into disk management and combining the 2 drives, specifiy the type of raid you want, and then formatting them for Windows to pick up as one volume?

You are best to configure the raid on the bios of your raid controller.

I am assuming you want to use the controller on your motherboard?

You need to go into your bios and set the controller to RAID. Please note that this will probably make your operating system none bootable if it is on the same controller unless it was already in this mode to begin with.

Hmm, are you saying I need to do a reinstall of my OS in that case?

Yup you'll need to reinstall your OS. RAID1 may be different, but there's no point in RAID1 on the OS drive anyway.

Just on the back of this, rather than create a new thread.

Does it need a OS reinstall if you are adding two drives previously set up as RAID to an existing system?
