hello all

im looking at getting either 1 or 2 hitachi t7k250's and had the following question,

what is the best raid to use for speed?

and how i would do this?

also, as a quicky, does making a seperate small partiton specifically for windows then having another partition for program files make any differance to performance?

cheers :D

For speed you want RAID0 which splits the data across 2 or more disks but there's a downside in that if one disk dies you lose ALL the data. Most new boards will support RAID0 on the onboard SATA ports.

I tend to partition to keep things organised but I keep Windows and most programs on the same partition and data on the rest of the space. This lets me reinstall without losing data files rather than for any performance gain.
