Just been thinking, since solid state drives are still very expensive, I was wondering if I would get a performance boost from setting up a stripped RAID array. I think my motherboard has an onbaord chip to support it and I'm sure I could pick up another cheap WD caviar blue 500gb, would this be a good idea?

I've been thinking about this too and I've seen claims of something like 260MB/s with 2 500GB Samsung F3s. I was considering buying 3 as at <£100 they would be cheaper than getting an SSD too. Has anyone tried this and would the read/write speed essentially be No. of drives x 130 MB/s?

I've got a RAID 0 array with two WD drives and it flies. Everything feels much snappier than without the RAID 0 so I'd say yes, go for it.
