Well, Just yesterday my on-board controller totaly went!

I can't shut my system down now, because if I let the controller "cool off" it's going to take some time getting the PC to boot back up.

So... I've had a look at the RAID controllers, and the controller i've chosen is the Highpoint Rocket RAID 2310. I have a few questions before I buy it.

1) Will I be able to boot into windows from a RAID 0 setup, from the card? The card is an PCI-E

2) Those of you who have this card, or another Highpoint controller card, how well do they perform?

3) Does this card have any bother with Raptor disks? as my last controller did have a bit of bother using Raptors.

Cheers all, any help would be much appriciated.

Could do with some asap, as i'm in a bit of a pickle not being able to shutdown heh.

I have a 2320 and I was impressed. It works OK, although mine is used as media storage area for a PVR system. I have mine fitted out with Seagate 7200.10 250Gb drives and it works fine.

It should boot OK however I haven't tried it on my board, but it says that it can.

2320 here too, again storage only (8*250Gb Hitachis in RAID5).

The card is bootable as far as I'm aware, the BIOS needs to be set to boot off a "SCSI Device" or equivalent and Windows will need the usual drivers from a floppy treatment during the install.

Performance is fine, RAID5 is not truely hardware but it's good enough for storage purposes but nowhere near as fast (or as expensive) as an Areca card. For RAID0 I've no idea what they're like but I do have the nagging suspicion that a 2310 is a bit of overkill for RAID0, I suppose that with 2 Raptors you could saturate the PCI bus so PCIe might be an advantage. Not sure if anyone does cheap PCIe RAID0/1 only cards.

Not heard of any issues with Raptors, there is a BIOS update for bigger WD drives though but any cards shipping now should have that as it's been around for 3 or 4 months now.

Thanks guys, so it should all work *crosses fingers* :p

I have one last question about this, as I'm already using a RAID 0 setup, and my OS is installed on it. Is there a way I could add the driver for the new card to my existing setup so I wouldn't need to re-install windows and all that malarky?

Thanks
