right i've got a small bit of spare cash and looking to upgrade my gfs comp from 2x80 samsungs to 3 or 4x80 samsungs, they're currently in raid 0. trouble is the mobo only has 4 sata ports on and there's a WD 500GB RE2 to fit in there as well, so looking for a reasonable card for raid 0, something decentish but not too exspensive

4 disks in RAID0 is not a good idea for a box that's actually getting used for something sensible, the vastly increased risk of failure outweighs the potential speed benefits in my eyes. Personally I'd be looking at replacing the two Samsungs with a pair of WD AAKS or Seagate 7200.10 drives. Either will give you a fair speed increase over the Samsungs she already has.

A RAID card is an option if you want but it's difficult to recommend one without knowing which board it's to go on.

right ok, sorry to bring this back, but just realised it's also only SATA I mobo heh, so could do with a pci/pci-e 1 card, any ideas of a reasonable one? even if it's only got 4 ports, at least it's sataII

There is a 2 port model pci-e card based on the SiI3132 chipset - all in all a pretty good little card and only about £20.

Best I can offer. Most PCI cards are very poor chipset based and I just couldn't recommend them. I would highly recommend the above card though - I have one. That would give you at least the 6 ports you require.
